Increased prevalence of behavioral risks among adolescent and young adult women with psychological distress in the emergency department.
Mental health problems in adolescents have been recognized as a significant medical concern. They have been associated with risk-taking behaviors during adolescence. ⋯ Screening for mental health issues in the emergency department may identify a significant number of adolescent patients in need of further evaluation, especially as half of surveyed patients reported the PED as a usual source of health care.

ReviewCommon pediatric fractures treated with minimal intervention.
The unlikely event of long-term complications in some pediatric fractures, such as midclavicular fractures, has allowed for management of these injuries with interventions that support the injured extremity rather than immobilize it while healing occurs. However, there is currently a growing body of evidence that advocates for this approach for some of the most frequently encountered pediatric fractures also at very low risk of future problems but, in contrast, have conventionally been managed with orthopedic consultation and rigid casting for several weeks. Therefore, this article will review the evidence that recommends that management of some of the most common upper and lower pediatric extremity fractures be treated with minimal interventions, such as removable splints and follow-up with a primary care provider.

Adolescent depression: views of health care providers in a pediatric emergency department.
Pediatric emergency department (PED) providers are strategically positioned to identify adolescents with depression. Our objectives were to describe health care providers' perspectives on adolescent depression and the role of depression screening in the PED. ⋯ The study describes the perspectives of multiple, key stakeholders necessary for a system response to the identification, assessment, and management of adolescent depression in the PED. The PED providers were generally supportive of computerized depression screening in the PED setting but also voiced the need for system-level responses that facilitate access to quality mental health care services for adolescents.

Case ReportsOrbital trauma, bradycardia, and vomiting: trapdoor fracture and the oculocardiac reflex: a case report.
The presentation of vomiting and bradycardia after closed head trauma should invariably prompt concern for significant intracranial injury, yet other less common causes for the clinical picture do exist. This case reports one such scenario in which fracture to the patient's inferior orbital wall resulted in the rare though potentially life-threatening oculocardiac reflex, a vagally mediated phenomenon with possible respiratory, cardiovascular, and gastric motility effects.
