A Meta-Analysis of the Association of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease with Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Presence.
Several case-control and population-based abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) screening studies have reported inconclusive results of the association of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) with AAA presence. To determine whether COPD is associated with AAA presence, we performed a meta-analysis of contemporary clinical studies. ⋯ The present meta-analysis demonstrated 1.8-fold increased prevalence/incidence of COPD in patients with AAA relative to subjects without AAA (i.e., 1.8-fold increased prevalence/incidence of AAA in patients with COPD relative to subjects without COPD), which suggests that COPD is associated with AAA presence.

Multiple Visceral Artery Aneurysms: An Uncommon Manifestation of Antineutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibody Vasculitis.
The antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis mainly affect small vessels. They are an exceptional etiology of visceral artery aneurysms, which are themselves unusual and potentially serious vascular disease. We report the case of a patient followed for vasculitis associated with ANCA with kidney disease who presented with symptomatic aneurysm of the inferior mesenteric artery and aneurysm of the superior mesenteric artery.

We report the case of a 55-year-old female who presented with symptomatic high-grade stenosis of the right internal carotid artery, years after her diagnosis of moyamoya disease (MMD), which had been treated with extensive carotid and cerebral vascular reconstructions. A percutaneous carotid revascularization was unsuccessful, and a carotid endarterectomy with bovine patch angioplasty was subsequently performed. The presence of symptomatic atherosclerotic carotid disease in combination with MMD, with all the perioperative challenges, has not been previously described.

To retrospectively analyze the role of intercostal artery reconstruction in the spinal cord protection for patients undergoing extensive thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm repair. ⋯ Intercostal artery reconstruction is an effective technique for spinal cord protection in patients with the thoracoabdominal aortic repair. It can achieve favorable results and avoid spinal cord deficits with long-term follow-up.

The risk of severe perioperative bradyarrhythmias in patients with chronic left bundle branch, or bifascicular block, and an additional first-degree atrioventricular block undergoing carotid endarterectomy (CEA) has never been specifically addressed. In this study, we aimed to investigate whether these conduction abnormalities entail an increased risk of hemodynamic compromise during CEA and the role of temporary transvenous pacemaker (TTVPM) implantation as a prophylactic measure in this subgroup of patients. ⋯ In our experience, TTVPM implantation was a clinically useful adjunct in patients with trifascicular block submitted to CEA, as compared with other vascular surgical procedures. However, the risks inherent to CEA in this subgroup of patients suggest that surgical treatment may not be warranted for those with asymptomatic carotid disease.
