Randomized Controlled TrialSingle bolus low-dose of ketamine does not prevent postpartum depression: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, prospective clinical trial.
Postpartum depression is a common complication of childbirth. In the last decade, it has been suggested that subdissociative-dose ketamine is a fast-acting antidepressant. We aimed to investigate the efficacy of low-dose ketamine administered during caesarean section in preventing postpartum depression. ⋯ Intra-operative low-dose ketamine (0.25 mg/kg) does not have a preventive effect on postpartum depression.

Risk factors and peripartum outcomes of failed epidural: a prospective cohort study.
Awareness to rate, risk factors, and the associated peripartum outcomes of failed epidural analgesia (FEA) may improve expectations and labor management. We aimed to identify risk factors for FEA and to examine peripartum outcomes associated with failure. ⋯ Higher fetal head station and oxytocin use may be associated with higher failure rate. Labor outcomes related to epidural use, occurred at comparable rates, among women with failed and successful epidural.

Adverse neonatal and maternal outcome following vacuum-assisted vaginal delivery: does indication matter?
To estimate the impact of indication for vacuum-assisted vaginal delivery on neonatal and maternal adverse outcome. ⋯ The indication for vacuum-assisted vaginal delivery has an impact on neonatal outcome. While cephalohematoma, low 5' Apgar score, and asphyxia were more common in the non-reassuring fetal heart rate group, neonatal sepsis was more common in cases of prolonged second stage of labor.
