Comparative Study Clinical TrialVascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) improves the sensitivity of CA125 for differentiation of epithelial ovarian cancers from ovarian cysts.
The present study aimed to compare the diagnostic value of preoperative serum levels of CA125 and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and the combination of both biomarkers for differentiating early stage epithelial ovarian cancers from ovarian cysts. ⋯ This study indicates that the addition of VEGF serum value improves the specificity and the sensitivity of CA125 to detect early stage epithelial ovarian cancers, and to differentiate these neoplasms from ovarian cyst.

A local hemostatic agent for the management of postpartum hemorrhage due to placenta previa and placenta accreta: a cross-sectional study.
To describe the use of a local hemostatic agent (LHA) for the management of postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) due to bleeding of the placental bed in patients taken to caesarean section at Fundación Santa Fe de Bogotá University Hospital. ⋯ An inverse association between the use of a LHA in patients with PPH due to bleeding of the placental bed and the need to perform an emergency obstetric hysterectomy was observed. Additionally there was a significant reduction in the mean duration of hospital stay, use of hemoderivatives and admission to the ICU.

Color Doppler ultrasound (CDU) in the diagnosis of obstructive hydronephrosis in pregnant women.
Color Doppler ultrasound (CDU) accuracy of kidneys and bladder in the diagnosis and treatment of hydronephrosis and/or renal colic in pregnancies was evaluated. ⋯ Color Doppler ultrasound in pregnancies with hydronephrosis and/or renal colic improves conventional ultrasound accuracy; in fact, CDU adds a functional evaluation of the urinary tract when combined with clinical findings allows performing the appropriate management.
