ReviewEarly versus delayed umbilical cord clamping on maternal and neonatal outcomes.
Policies for timing of cord clamping varied from early cord clamping (ECC) in the first 30 s after birth, to delayed cord clamping (DCC) in more than 30 s after birth or when cord pulsation has ceased. DCC, an inexpensive method allowed physiological placental transfusion. The aim of this article is to review the benefits and the potential harms of early versus delayed cord clamping. ⋯ Delayed cord clamping in term and preterm infants was a simple, safe, and effective delivery procedure, which should be recommended, but the optimal cord clamping time remained controversial.

Hidden blood loss and its risk factors in patients undergoing laparoscopy and laparotomy for cervical cancer management.
Laparoscopy and laparotomy are the two most common surgical options used to treat women with early-stage cervical cancer. This study aimed to examine the volume of hidden blood loss (HBL) between laparoscopy and laparotomy for cervical cancer and to identify its risk factors. ⋯ HBL is seriously underestimated, and accounts for a large percentage of total blood loss both in laparotomy and laparoscopy for cervical cancer. Additionally, age, pathological tumour type, pre-operative value of Hb and Hct, surgical time and diabetes mellitus have the potential to increase HBL. A correct understanding of HBL can ensure patient safety and improve post-operative rehabilitation.

ReviewWhat uro-gynecologists should know about sacral neuromodulation (SNM) for the treatment of refractory overactive bladder.
To inform uro-gynecologists about the current standards and latest developments of sacral neuromodulation (SNM) in women with overactive bladder (OAB). ⋯ SNM is a successful and recommended second-line treatment of OAB. Sacral neurostimulators should preferably be implanted in SNM-centers because complications and the frequency of revisions are significantly reduced with increasing experience of the surgeon.

The impact of antenatal factor XIII levels on postpartum haemorrhage: a prospective observational study.
Postpartum haemorrhage (PPH) is a leading cause of maternal mortality and morbidity. Our aim was to investigate the relationships between antenatal factor XIII (FXIII), fibrinogen levels, and blood loss at childbirth. ⋯ Our results suggested that antenatal FXIII levels may have a significant influence on PPH. The interaction between FXIII and fibrinogen might also provide slight advantages in forecasting PPH.

Management and evaluation of pregnant women with Takayasu arteritis.
To evaluate the clinical characteristics, obstetric/neonatal outcomes, and pregnancy complications of pregnant women with Takayasu arteritis (TA). ⋯ Appropriate management of pregnant women with TA within the framework of antenatal care programs and adopting a multidisciplinary approach are key to ensure successful outcomes.
