Parent knowledge regarding food selection for children with PKU: Results of a survey in the United States.
Dietary treatment is the main therapy for most patients with phenylketonuria (PKU). Parental knowledge regarding food selection is crucial to ensure adequate metabolic control and brain development during childhood and to promote lifelong adherence and healthy dietary behavior in the offspring. The aims of this study were to assess whether parental or caregiver knowledge regarding nutritional selection for children with PKU is in accordance with medical recommendations and to evaluate factors that influence their level of knowledge. ⋯ Knowledge of restricted foods is important to avoid poor metabolic control, but knowledge of allowed foods can be just as important to allow for a diet that is diverse, palatable, and nutritionally balanced.

It is necessary to construct an evaluation index for patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma during peri-radiotherapy to provide a reference for the evaluation of the quality of nutritional management of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma during peri-radiotherapy. The aim of this study was to construct a set of scientific, comprehensive, and feasible indicators for evaluating the quality of nutrition management in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma during peri-radiotherapy to provide a unified reference basis for objective nutritional evaluation of these patients during the peri-radiotherapy period and to provide insights to the clinical treatment and care of these patients. ⋯ The evaluation index of the nutrition management quality of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma during peri-radiotherapy is scientific and reliable, and it may have a certain guiding significance for nurses to evaluate the quality of nutrition management of these patients during this period.

Cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) is influenced by body composition quantity and quality in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and obesity. Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) provides a noninvasive quantitative and qualitative body composition assessment. The aim of this study was to determine the role of phase angle (PhA), a BIA-measure of skeletal muscle quality and body cell mass, on CRF in patients with obesity and HFpEF. ⋯ In patients with obesity and HFpEF, a greater PhA is an independent predictor for favorable CRF.

Systemic sclerosis (SSc) can cause malnutrition due to frequent gastrointestinal involvement. However, prevalence of malnutrition in SSc is poorly known. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of malnutrition in SSc and its potential associations with disease features in patients from a tertiary referral center. ⋯ Malnutrition affects more than half of SSc patients and is associated with specific cardiac involvement. Interincisal distance <35 mm could be a red flag for severe malnutrition in SSc.

Mobile nutrition applications (apps) provide a simple way for individuals to record their diet, but the validity and inherent errors need to be carefully evaluated. The aim of this study was to assess the validity and clarify the sources of measurement errors of image-assisted mobile nutrition apps. ⋯ Mitigating errors significantly improved the accuracy of the Formosa FoodApp, indicating its validity and reliability as a self-reporting mobile-based dietary assessment tool. Dietitians and health professionals should be mindful of potential errors associated with self-reporting nutrition apps, and manual data cleaning is vital to obtain reliable nutrient intake data.
