Multicenter Study
Effect of adherence to Mediterranean diet on first ST-elevation myocardial infarction: Insights from multiethnic case-control study.
This study aimed to assess the protective role of dietary habits and Mediterranean diet adherence in first acute myocardial infarction in patients enrolled in the multicenter and multiethnic FAMI (First Acute Myocardial Infarction) study. ⋯ The study found a protective effect of the Mediterranean diet and high fruit and vegetable consumption on the risk of first STEMI, regardless of traditional cardiovascular risk factors in the European population.

Randomized Controlled Trial
The effect of single-nucleotide polymorphisms at the ADIPOQ gene locus rs1501299 on metabolic parameters after 9 mo of a high-protein/low-carbohydrate versus a standard hypocaloric diet.
Some adiponectin gene (ADIPOQ) single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) have been related to basal and adiponectin levels and metabolic parameters. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the genetic variant rs1501299 ADIPOQ gene on biochemical changes after weight loss secondary to a high-protein and low-carbohydrate diet versus a standard severe hypocaloric diet over 9 mo as the primary endpoint. ⋯ After two different hypocaloric diets during 9 mo of intervention, the GG genotype of an ADIPOQ gene variant (rs1501299) is related to better improvement in adiponectin levels, insulin resistance, and lipid profile than T-allele carriers.

Cancer has become a major indication for home parenteral nutrition (HPN). However, the use of HPN in adult cancer patients is highly variable between countries and may also differ within each country. The aim of the present study was to characterize regional variations in practice patterns for cancer patients on HPN using data from the Canadian HPN Registry. ⋯ Most cancer patients on HPN have gastrointestinal or gynecologic cancers. Those surviving for ≥3 mo have better baseline characteristics. Regional variability in the prevalence, selection, and survival of cancer patients receiving HPN suggests the need for consensus on the use of HPN in this population.

The aim of this study was to examine predictors of household food insecurity, dietary diversity, and children's mean micronutrient density adequacy and the relationship among these dietary measures. ⋯ Household food insecurity continues to be a good indicator of lower nutrient intake in children.

Effect of teduglutide on restoring oral autonomy for magnesium in two patients with short bowel.
It is not known whether Teduglutide can allow patients with Short bowel syndrome, previously dependent on continuous or periodic intravenous (IV) magnesium, to attain oral autonomy with or without supplementation. Here, we report on two patients previously dependent on continuous or intermittently administered IV magnesium to achieve autonomy from IV, one with and one without oral supplementation that was previously ineffective in both patients.
