Obesity is a chronic state of excessive fat accumulation in the body, characterized by significant relapse and complicated by a range of health consequences. In the treatment of obesity, a holistic approach including diet, physical activity, pharmacotherapy, bariatric surgery, and psychological support is recommended. ⋯ It is also unclear whether using probiotics or synbiotics accompanied by weight loss dietary interventions or as a part of bariatric surgery will be more effective in obesity management, not only in the short-term but also for long-term weight loss maintenance. The aim of this study was to collect and compare the available scientific data on the effectiveness of probiotic or synbiotic supplementation (as a single therapy versus as part of dietary interventions, pharmacotherapy, or bariatric therapy) on weight control in obesity.

The aim of our study was to compare four lifestyles-healthy diet and low activity, unhealthy diet and high activity, unhealthy diet and low activity, and healthy diet and high activity-in relation to the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and all-cause mortality. ⋯ Having high PA (total or occupational), with or without adhering to a healthy diet, is associated with a lower risk of death from any cause and CVD; although leisure time PA, irrespective of adhering to a healthy diet, was not associated with a lower risk of all-cause and CVD mortality.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] levels at birth in postnatal growth at discharge and 12 mo of corrected age in preterm infants. ⋯ The results of this study suggested that the 25(OH)D serum levels in the umbilical cord did not influence postnatal growth from birth to the first year of life in preterm infants. There was a direct association between maternal and umbilical cord serum 25(OH)D levels.

Parent knowledge regarding food selection for children with PKU: Results of a survey in the United States.
Dietary treatment is the main therapy for most patients with phenylketonuria (PKU). Parental knowledge regarding food selection is crucial to ensure adequate metabolic control and brain development during childhood and to promote lifelong adherence and healthy dietary behavior in the offspring. The aims of this study were to assess whether parental or caregiver knowledge regarding nutritional selection for children with PKU is in accordance with medical recommendations and to evaluate factors that influence their level of knowledge. ⋯ Knowledge of restricted foods is important to avoid poor metabolic control, but knowledge of allowed foods can be just as important to allow for a diet that is diverse, palatable, and nutritionally balanced.

It is necessary to construct an evaluation index for patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma during peri-radiotherapy to provide a reference for the evaluation of the quality of nutritional management of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma during peri-radiotherapy. The aim of this study was to construct a set of scientific, comprehensive, and feasible indicators for evaluating the quality of nutrition management in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma during peri-radiotherapy to provide a unified reference basis for objective nutritional evaluation of these patients during the peri-radiotherapy period and to provide insights to the clinical treatment and care of these patients. ⋯ The evaluation index of the nutrition management quality of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma during peri-radiotherapy is scientific and reliable, and it may have a certain guiding significance for nurses to evaluate the quality of nutrition management of these patients during this period.
