The aim of the present study was to determine the efficacy of green coffee bioactives in ameliorating the effects of high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity through in vitro and in vivo assessments. ⋯ GCE exhibits promising results in suppressing the consequences associated with HFD-induced obesity. It has the potential to be incorporated into food products benefiting consumer health and food industries.

Meal timing is a major risk factor for metabolic disease. The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between dinner timing and glucose metabolism in the rural Chinese population. ⋯ A significant association between dinner timing and glucose metabolism was observed in the rural Chinese population. Delayed dinner timing may be associated with lower fasting insulin. The negative effect of dinner timing on FINS and HOMA-IR was diminished with age.

Consumers' growing interest in using foods that improve health has motivated researchers and the food industry to develop new functional products, such as foods containing probiotics or live microbes. Probiotics have functional attributes that could satisfy most basic nutritional and therapeutic supplementation requirements. These microbes positively respond to clinical therapies against diseases and illnesses such as rotavirus-associated diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome, and food allergies. ⋯ Probiotic supplementation usually involves dairy products. However, because of the growing number of individuals affected by lactose intolerance and/or vegans, other food matrices like fruits, vegetables, cereals, and so on, have been studied as potential carriers for these microorganisms, presenting an alternative and better source in the process of assessing novel probiotic strains. The present review discusses the various factors affecting the survival of probiotics during storage in fruit juices, the possible effect of probiotics on sensory attributes and the overall acceptance of the products, and future technologies to improve the viability of probiotics.

Malnutrition in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has declined over the past 2 decades. However, malnutrition inequality persists. Evaluating trends of socioeconomic disparities in malnutrition among children under 5 y of age in the DRC can help target meaningful interventions. ⋯ Despite progress in reducing malnutrition, persistent socioeconomic disparities, particularly in urban areas, remain a serious public health concern in the DRC. Addressing the root causes of malnutrition and ensuring socioeconomically equitable access to nutrition is critical to promote the full potential of children.

Maternal anemia is a worldwide health issue and a common pregnancy complication. It leads to consequences including infant mortality, low birth weight, preterm birth, unrecoverable or partially reversible neurobehavioral and cognitive deficits, and short birth length. However, the relationship between maternal anemia and stunting in children is not well defined. This systematic literature review sought to determine whether maternal anemia was associated with height or length and stunting conditions in infants and children ages 0-60 mo in cohort, case-control, and cross-sectional studies carried out in several countries. ⋯ The current review emphasizes that stunting in children may be associated with maternal anemia, specifically in developing countries. This implies that it is crucial to prevent anemia in adolescent girls and women before and during pregnancy as a part of programs to eliminate stunting in children.
