Virtual reality exposure reduce acute postoperative pain in female patients undergoing laparoscopic gynecology surgery: A Randomized Control Trial (RCT) study.
Few studies have focused on the effect of virtual reality (VR) exposure on postoperative acute pain in adult female patients undergoing gynecology surgery. ⋯ VR intervention can reduce acute postoperative pain with better postoperative recovery and lower preoperative anxiety level in adult female patients undergoing laparoscopic gynecology surgery.

Incidence and onset of central venous catheter-related thrombosis in critically ill surgical patients: A prospective observational single-center study.
Catheter-related thrombosis (CRT) is a major complication of central venous catheters (CVCs). However, the incidence, onset, and dependence of CRT on CVC material and/or type in critically ill surgical patients is unknown. Therefore, we here investigated the incidence, onset, and dependence of CRT on a variety of risk factors, including CVC material and type, in critically ill surgical patients. ⋯ Almost all CVCs in the internal jugular vein in critically ill surgical patients developed an asymptomatic CRT in the first days after catheterization.

Medicare payment trends compared to inflation for anesthesia services.
Identify changes and trends in the real value of Medicare payments for anesthesia services between 2000 and 2020 and how it may affect practices. ⋯ Average Medicare payment for common anesthesia services after adjusting for inflation have decreased from 2000 to 2020, consistent with findings in other physician specialties. Understanding these trends is important for practice viability and suggests significant financial implications for anesthesia practices and hospitals if the trend were to continue.

To assess the association of intraoperative hypotension with long-term survivals in older patients after major noncardiac surgery mainly for cancer. ⋯ In older patients who underwent major noncardiac surgery mainly for cancer, intraoperative hypotension was associated with worse overall, recurrence-free, and event-free survivals.

Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is a life-threatening intestinal illness mostly affecting preterm infants, which commonly requires surgery. Anesthetic care for these patients is challenging, due to their prematurity and critical illness with hemodynamic instability. Currently, there are no guidelines for anesthetic care for these vulnerable patients. Therefore, this study aimed to describe current anesthesia practices across Europe for infants undergoing surgery for NEC. ⋯ Anesthesia practice for infants undergoing surgery for NEC was highly variable. Most respondents considered the provided anesthetic care for patients with NEC adequate, but also recognized opportunities for further improvement, especially with regards to monitoring, protocols, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
