The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of different prosthodontic planning methods on the morphological symmetry of maxillary anterior teeth. ⋯ In this study, the single tooth symmetry had improved after the digital wax-up. However, the conventional wax-up had a minimal impact on single tooth symmetry. ASMA was minimally affected by the two wax-ups.

The aim of this paper was to report the first case of Kennedy disease misdiagnosed as polyneuropathy, organomegaly, endocrinopathy, monoclonal gammopathy, and skin changes (POEMS) syndrome. ⋯ This case suggests that clinicians should pay more attention to the differential diagnosis between KD and POEMS syndrome. Gene analysis was helpful in detecting this rare confusing disease in this patient.

To describe the relationship between atherosclerosis and hearing thresholds in prediabetic patients with impaired fasting glucose (IFG) and to determine the efficacy of glycated albumin in predicting carotid artery atherosclerosis in patients with isolated IFG. ⋯ Sensorineural hearing loss was more common in patients with IFG. Plasma glycated albumin levels were strongly correlated with CIMT and carotid plaques as a marker of atherosclerosis and with hearing impairment thought to develop due to atherosclerosis in patients with IFG.

To investigate single nucleotide polymorphisms in the eukaryotic translation initiation factor 3a (eIF3a) gene and the risk for gastric cancer within the Chinese population. ⋯ An association between eIF3a rs77382849 polymorphism and susceptibility to gastric cancer was observed in these Chinese patients.

Light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation (laser) has been used widely in a range of biomedical and dental applications in recent years. In the field of restorative dentistry, various kinds of lasers have been developed for diagnostic (e.g. caries detection) and operative applications (e.g. tooth ablation, cavity preparation, restorations, bleaching). ⋯ The main aim of this paper is to evaluate and summarize the applications of lasers in restorative dentistry, including a comparison of the applications of lasers for major restorative dental procedures and conventional clinical approaches. A remarkable increase in the use of lasers for dental application is expected in the near future.
