Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study
Treatment response to sleep, pain, and mood disturbance and their correlation with sleep disturbance in adult patients with moderate-to-severe primary restless legs syndrome: Pooled analyses from 3 trials of gabapentin enacarbil.
This pooled analysis investigated the effects of gabapentin enacarbil (GEn) on clinical correlates of sleep disturbance in adults with moderate-to-severe primary restless legs syndrome (RLS) and no-to-moderate or severe-to-very severe baseline sleep disturbance. ⋯ GEn (600 mg and 1200 mg) was effective and well tolerated in adults with moderate-to-severe primary RLS regardless of baseline sleep disturbance level.

The overweight and obesity trends have risen over the past few decades, placing significant burdens on health care in terms of increased morbidity and cost. Behavioral change therapy is an effective treatment strategy and includes goal setting, self-monitoring, problem solving, and reinforcement tactics. Traditionally, behavior change therapy has been delivered using face-to-face counseling along with paper and pen recording of dietary intake and physical activity. ⋯ In this review, we present new approaches to promote behavior changes in the management of obesity. Currently available data show promising results. However, future research is needed to address study limitations and implementation challenges of these innovative interventions.

Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) includes a heterogeneous group of clonal haematological stem cell disorders characterized by dysplasia, cytopenias, ineffective haematopoiesis, and an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), which is also called secondary AML (sAML). Approximately one-third of patients with MDS will progress to sAML within a few months to a few years, and this type of transformation is more common and rapid in patients with high-risk MDS (HR-MDS). However, the precise mechanisms underlying the evolution of MDS to sAML remain unclear. ⋯ Additionally, compared to de novo AML, sAML is more difficult to cure, and the prognosis is often worse. Therefore, it is important to clarify the molecular mechanisms of the progression of MDS to sAML and to explore the potent drugs for clinical use. This review will highlight several molecular mechanisms of the progression of MDS to sAML and new therapeutic strategies of this disease.

The association between sleep disturbances and cardiometabolic diseases has been understudied in blacks with metabolic syndrome. ⋯ We observed a strong association between sleep apnea risk and diabetes mellitus among blacks with metabolic syndrome.
