Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is a malignant condition in humans. Anoikis-related genes (ARGs) are crucial to cancer progression. Therefore, more studies on the relationship between ARGs and ESCC are warranted. ⋯ The study established an ARG prognosis model of ESCC. It provided a reference for the research of ARGs in ESCC.

Haemodialysis (HD) patients are predisposed to physical ailments, and their occurrence of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) could potentially lead to a more unfavourable prognosis. However, the impact of SARS-CoV-2 (Omicron variant) infection on the prognosis of HD patients remains unclear. This study aimed to explore the impact of Omicron variant infection on the prognosis of HD patients. ⋯ Omicron variant infection was associated with increased mortality risk in HD patients, and Omicron infection worsen the prognosis of HD patients. Enhancing immune protection against SARS-CoV-2 is crucial for HD patients during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Maintenance therapy promotes profound organ and haematologic response in light-chain amyloidosis patients not undergoing autologous stem cell transplantation.
Evidence on maintenance therapy following frontline induction is sparse in primary light-chain amyloidosis (AL), especially for those who do not undergo autologous haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (ASCT). ⋯ This study identified the clinical benefits of maintenance therapy in patients with AL who did not undergo ASCT in real-world practice.

The postoperative (PO) period after cardiac surgery is associated with the occurrence of respiratory complications. Noninvasive positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV) is largely used as a ventilatory support strategy after the interruption of invasive mechanical ventilation. However, the variables associated with NIPPV prescription are unclear. ⋯ BMI and lung alterations related to gas exchange disturbances are major predictors for NIPPV prescription in patients during the PO period of cardiac surgery. The identification of these predictors can benefit clinical decision-making regarding the prescription of NIPPV and help conserve human and material resources, thereby preventing the indiscriminate use of NIPPV.

Cell death modulates the biological behaviors of tumors. However, the comprehensive role of the multiple forms of cell death in lower-grade glioma (LGG) is unknown. ⋯ The new cell death-based subtype system indicates several features of LGG biology and reveals novel insights into the use of precision medicine for treating LGG. The CDPM score could be used to predict the immunotherapy response and prognosis of LGG patients; moreover, it could indicate a novel direction for improving LGG management.
