Patients with bacterial, fungal, and viral community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) were studied to determine their metabolic profiles. ⋯ Serum metabolomic techniques based on UHPLC-MS/MS may identify differences between individuals with CAP who have been infected by various pathogens, and they can also build a metabolite signature for early detection of the origin of infection and prompt care.

Fibrotic metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) is a condition at risk of progressing to advanced liver disease. We examined whether an innovative exhaled nitric oxide (eNO) breath test (BT) can accurately diagnose fibrotic MASH without requiring blood tests. ⋯ The eNO-BT is a promising simple test for non-invasively identifying fibrotic MASH, and its performance is further improved by adding LSM measurement.

Glioblastoma (GBM) is an aggressive primary brain tumor with a high recurrence rate and poor prognosis. Necroptosis, a pathological hallmark of GBM, is poorly understood in terms of its role in prognosis, tumor microenvironment (TME) alteration, and immunotherapy. ⋯ Our study highlights the role of necroptosis-related genes in glioblastoma (GBM) and their effects on the tumor microenvironment and patient prognosis. TheGNI demonstrates potential as a prognostic marker and provides insights into immune characteristics and treatment responsiveness.

The lack of association between serum testosterone levels and symptoms suggestive of hypogonadism is a significant barrier in the determination of late-onset hypogonadism (LOH) in men. This study explored whether testosterone levels increase after morning awakening, likewise the cortisol awakening response (CAR) in the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, and whether testosterone levels during the post-awakening period are associated with age and symptoms suggestive of late-onset hypogonadism (LOH) in men. ⋯ The results indicate that the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonad (HPG) axis responds to morning awakening, and determining testosterone levels during the post-awakening period in men with typical CAR may be useful for assessing HPG axis function and LOH.

Traditional medical education often lacks contextual experience, hindering students' ability to effectively apply theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios. The integration of the metaverse into medical education holds great enormous promise for addressing educational disparities, particularly in lower-middle-income countries (LMICs) accompanied by rapid technological advancements. This commentary paper aimed to address the potential of the metaverse in enhancing basic sciences education within the constraints faced by universities in LMICs. We also addressed learning design challenges by proposing fundamental design elements and a suggested conceptual framework for developing metaverse-based teaching methods. The goal is to assist educators and medical practitioners in comprehensivley understanding key factors in immersive teaching and learning. ⋯ The metaverse offers a promising solution for enhancing medical education by providing immersive, context-rich learning experiences. This paper proposes a conceptual framework and fundamental design elements to aid faculty educators and medical practitioners in effectively incorporating metaverse technology into their teaching methods, thus improving educational outcomes in LMICs.
