Comparison of two platinum-containing chemotherapy regimens in the treatment of advanced cervical cancer with concurrent chemoradiotherapy.
The present study aims to compare the efficacy and side effects of a platinum-containing combination regimen and platinum single-drug concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) in patients with advanced cervical cancer (CC) and to understand the prognostic factors in patients with CC. ⋯ A higher patient age, having an AC and stage of IIIa and a high SCC-Ag value before treatment resulted in a relatively low survival rate.

Sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) has been suggested to occur in patients with Lyme neuroborreliosis (LNB); however, a clear association has never been documented. The present study prospectively investigated the development of SNHL in patients admitted for treatment of LNB using distortion-product-oto-acoustic emissions (DPOAE) as a measure of cochlear function. ⋯ LNB can lead to cochlear outer-hair cell dysfunction, resulting in temporary and long-term SNHL.

Little is known about the underlying factors contributing to unfavourable clinical outcomes in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) complicated by new-onset acute myocardial infarction (AMI). The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of DM on the pathophysiologic features and prognosis of patients with new-onset AMI following successful revascularization by utilizing cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR). ⋯ Comprehensive phenotypic characterization of myocardial injury and microcirculatory status could enable reliable identification of high-risk MACCEs in DM patients with new-onset AMI following successful revascularization.

Asthma, a prevalent chronic respiratory disorder, remains enigmatic, notwithstanding considerable advancements in our comprehension. Continuous efforts are crucial for discovering novel molecular targets and gaining a comprehensive understanding of its pathogenesis. ⋯ This study uncovers novel genetic aspects of asthma, highlighting potential therapeutic pathways. It exemplifies the power of integrative bioinformatics in decoding complex disease patterns. However, these findings require further validation, and the precise roles of C1orf64 and C7orf26 in asthma warrant additional investigation to validate their therapeutic potential.

Contributions of individual qSOFA elements to assessment of severity and for prediction of mortality.
The quick sequential [sepsis-related] organ failure assessment (qSOFA) acts as a prompt to consider possible sepsis. The contributions of individual qSOFA elements to assessment of severity and for prediction of mortality remain unknown. ⋯ Respiratory rate ≥22/min made the greatest contribution to parsimonious qSOFA to assess severity and predict mortality. However, the contributions of altered mentation and SBP ≤100 mm Hg decreased strikingly in turn. It is the first known prospective evidence of the contributions of individual qSOFA elements to assessment of severity and for prediction of mortality, which might have implications for more accurate clinical triage decisions.
