The 2019 ERS/ESTS/EACTS/ESTRO Guidelines on the Management of Patients With Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma.
Malignant pleural mesothelioma is a rare aggressive cancer, with insidious growth, and is associated with poor outcomes that have not improved over the years. A task force made up of members of the European Respiratory Society (ERS)/European Society of Thoracic Surgeons (ESTS)/European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS)/European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO) societies, who are experts in the field of malignant mesothelioma, reviewed the literature from 2009 to 2018 to update the 2009 guidelines concerning epidemiology, diagnosis, staging, and treatment, including surgical, radiotherapy, and medical management, as well as palliative care to provide the best evidence-based recommendations for this patient population.

Observational StudyPericardial Effusions in Patients With Cancer: Anesthetic Management and Survival Outcomes.
The objective of this study was to describe practice patterns of anesthetic management during pericardial window creation. ⋯ Risk of death after pericardial window creation remains high in patients with cancer. Variations in anesthetic management did not affect survival in oncologic patients with pericardial effusions.

Observational StudyA Pharmacokinetic and Pharmacodynamic Investigation of an ε-Aminocaproic Acid Regimen Designed for Cardiac Surgery With Cardiopulmonary Bypass.
To investigate the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of an ε-aminocaproic acid (EACA) regimen designed for cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). ⋯ This regimen provided maximum EACA concentrations near the time of protamine administration, with a total perioperative dose of 15 g. Most patients had EACA concentrations greater than the target during CPB. ΔD-dimer did not correlate with EACA concentration. The median 24-hour chest tube output compared well to similar studies that used higher doses of EACA.

Observational StudyAnticoagulation Management in Severe Coronavirus Disease 2019 Patients on Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation.
To explore special coagulation characteristics and anticoagulation management in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)-assisted patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). ⋯ Hypercoagulability and secondary hyperfibrinolysis during ECMO support in COVID-19 patients are common and possibly increase the propensity for thrombotic events and failure of the oxygenator. Currently, there is not enough evidence to support a more aggressive anticoagulation strategy.
