Multicenter Study Observational StudyCurrent Use, Training, and Barriers of Point-of-Care Ultrasound in Anesthesiology: A National Survey of Veterans Affairs Hospitals.
The purpose of this study was to determine current use, training needs, and barriers to point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) use among anesthesiologists in practice. ⋯ A significant increase in desire for POCUS training was seen among anesthesiologists practicing in the Veterans Affairs healthcare system since 2015, and lack of training continues to be a top barrier for POCUS use among anesthesiologists.

Randomized Controlled TrialA Single Preoperative Dose of S-Ketamine Has No Beneficial Effect on Chronic Postsurgical Pain in Patients Undergoing Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgical Lung Lesion Resection: A Prospective Randomized Controlled Study.
To evaluate the efficacy of a single preoperative dose of S-ketamine for chronic postsurgical pain (CPSP) in patients undergoing video-assisted thoracoscopic surgical lung lesion resection (VATS). ⋯ A single preoperative dose of S-ketamine in patients who underwent VATS had no significant effect on acute and chronic postoperative pain or the consumption of analgesics after surgery. A single preoperative dose of S-ketamine could improve sleep on the first day after surgery, whereas it had no significant effect on anxiety levels.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyA Multimodal Cardioprotection Strategy During Cardiac Surgery: The ProCCard Study.
The ProCCard study tested whether combining several cardioprotective interventions would reduce the myocardial and other biological and clinical damage in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. ⋯ This multimodal cardioprotection has not demonstrated any biological or clinical benefit during cardiac surgery. The cardio- and reno-protective effects of sevoflurane and remote ischemic preconditioning therefore remain to be demonstrated in this context.

Multicenter StudyNoninvasive Assessment of Arterial Pulse-Pressure Variation During General Anesthesia: Clinical Evaluation of a New High-Fidelity Upper Arm Cuff.
To compare noninvasive pulse-pressure variation (PPV) measurements obtained from a new high-fidelity upper arm cuff using a hydraulic coupling technique to corresponding intraarterial PPV measurements. ⋯ The new high-fidelity upper arm cuff method provided a clinically reliable estimate of PPV.
