To compare the number of eye surgical procedures performed in Italy during the first month of lockdown with those performed in the same period in 2019. ⋯ A significant reduction in the rate of urgent and elective surgeries and intravitreal injections was recorded during the first month of lockdown compared to the same period in 2019. With this analysis, the authors hope to provide some preliminary insights about the consequences of lockdown for the eyecare system in Italy.

The purpose was to present two patients with superior ophthalmic vein thrombosis following coil embolization of posterior communicating artery aneurysm, that have not been reported after this particular procedure yet. ⋯ Isolated superior ophthalmic vein thrombosis (SOVT) is rare, but may be associated with sight-threatening complications. After intracranial interventions on cerebral vessels, clinical features of SOVT including choroidal effusion syndrome should be investigated, and the patients should receive prompt and proper care including ophthalmic medications and systemic anticoagulants to restrict the ocular and systemic complications.

The novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) is infecting people and spreading easily from person-to-person. Cases have been detected in most countries worldwide. Italy is one of the most affected countries as of 30 March 2020. Public health response includes a rapid reorganization of the Italian National Healthcare System in order to reduce transmission of COVID-19 within hospitals and healthcare facilities, while optimizing the assistance to patients with severe COVID-19 complications. ⋯ Containment measures in the event of pandemic due to infective agents should be well known by healthcare professionals and promptly applied in order to mitigate the risk of nosocomial transmission and outbreak.

The aim of this study was to evaluate thiol/disulfide homeostasis and ischemia-modified albumin levels with primary open-angle glaucoma, ocular hypertension, and control group; also to interpret the correlation between these biochemical parameters and retinal nerve fiber layer analysis. ⋯ These findings have reinforced the role of oxidative stress in the etiopathogenesis of primary open-angle glaucoma, suggesting that the thinning retinal nerve fiber layer may be associated with oxidative stress in favor of prooxidant shift.

To assess the reproducibility of swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography (SS-OCTA) for macular and optic nerve head (ONH) vessel density (VD). ⋯ The new SS-OCTA software served to quantify macular and ONH VD with a reproducibility that was good in the central zones (foveal and papillary, respectively) and moderate in the peripheral zones (parafoveal and peripapillary).
