The impact of financial crisis on central serous chorioretinopathy in Greece: is there any correlation?
To investigate the impact of economic crisis on central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR) incidence in Greece, analyzing data by 3 different ophthalmology units during the period 2005-2012. ⋯ Our study suggests a potential impact of financial crisis on CSCR. Our results demonstrated that CSCR incidence, in both new and recurrent cases, has increased during the years of economic crisis in Greece, especially in 2010-2011, implying that CSCR is likely to be associated with stress or other emotional stimuli caused by financial crisis. It is also important to note that the results were similar in public and private units.

Optic nerve and visual pathways primary glioblastoma treated with radiotherapy and temozolomide chemotherapy.
Primary malignant gliomas of the optic nerves are rare tumors of adulthood, progressing rapidly to blindness and to death within several months, regardless of the type of treatment. Recently, treatments associating radiotherapy and temozolomide have been used in other types of glioblastomas, but their impact on optic nerve malignant gliomas is not known. ⋯ Combined radiotherapy and temozolomide may be an alternative treatment in optic nerve and visual pathways primary GBM, potentially providing a longer survival.

Emergence delirium (ED) is a leading problem in children after general anesthesia. Dexmedetomidine (DEX) can be administered prior to general anesthesia to decrease ED, although wide ranges of dose are used. This study was conducted to investigate the proper dosages of DEX to attenuate children's ED after sevoflurane anesthesia. ⋯ Dexmedetomidine can be safely used between 1.0 and 1.43 µg/kg to attenuate children's ED after sevoflurane anesthesia.

To evaluate the variation in biomechanical properties and central corneal thickness (CCT) for each trimester during pregnancy and to compare the values with those in nonpregnant women. ⋯ Hormonal changes during pregnancy may not affect corneal biomechanics. This may be due to the balanced effect of the various hormones on the cornea during pregnancy.

To describe the demographics and clinical characteristics of work-related open-globe injuries (OGIs) at a level I trauma center over a 10-year period. ⋯ Work-related injuries were noted to have a much higher incidence of IOFBs and cataracts compared to non-work-related OGIs. Zone 3 injuries, rupture injuries, and a presenting VA of NLP were found to be significant predictors for a final VA of NLP. Zone 3 injury, APD, and endophthalmitis were found to be significant predictors for enucleation.
