To describe the levels of insomnia, fatigue and intershift recovery, and psychological well-being (burnout, post-traumatic stress and psychological distress), and to examine differences in these measures based on work-related characteristics among nursing staff during COVID-19 pandemic in the United States. ⋯ Nursing administration is recommended to monitor for fatigue and distress on nursing units, re-visit current scheduling practices, reinforce rest breaks and provide access to mental health and sleep wellness resources with additional support for their front-line nursing groups.

Effects of monitor alarm management training on nurses' alarm fatigue: A randomised controlled trial.
Chaotic monitor alarm management generates a large number of alarms, which result in alarm fatigue. Intensive care unit (ICU) nurses are caretakers of critically ill patients, the effect of alarm management affect patient safety directly. ⋯ (1) Monitor alarm training based on the theory of planned behaviour is effective in reducing nonactionable alarms and lowering alarm fatigue in ICU nurses. (2) The intervention considering the social psychological aspects of behaviour is effective in rebuilding the nurses' awareness and behaviour of alarm management. (3) Nurses are the direct users of monitoring technology. Hospital administrators should attach importance to the role of nurses in the medical monitoring system. We suggest that nursing managers implement training programmes in more ICUs in the future to improve alarm management ability and lower alarm fatigue in ICU nurses.

To explore nurses' experiences regarding shift patterns while providing front-line care for COVID-19 patients in isolation wards of hospitals in Shanghai and Wuhan during the novel coronavirus pandemic. Our findings will help to optimise shift work scheduling, use the existing nursing workforce more efficiently and improve nursing quality. ⋯ This study emphasised nurses' experiences on shift patterns in isolation wards, providing useful information to manage shift patterns. Nursing managers should arrange shifts scientifically, allocate nursing workforce rationally, formulate emergency plans and establish emergency response rosters during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This study aimed to portray the prevalence and associated factors of psychological distress among frontline nurses during COVID-19 outbreak. ⋯ This study highlighted that the frontline nurses were suffering from varying degrees of psychological distress, which needed early screening and supportive intervention for preventing more serious psychological impact on frontline nurses. Beside, more specific measurement should be combined with the GHQ-12 to assess the varying degrees of psychological distress in frontline nurses.

To evaluate compassion fatigue (CF), burnout (BO), compassion satisfaction (CS) and perceived stress in healthcare professionals during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) health crisis in Spain. ⋯ Despite the health crisis situation and its implications for healthcare professionals, the levels of CF and BO have remained moderate/high. However, CS seems to be increasing, especially among nurses, possibly due to their motivation to relieve suffering and due to their perceived social recognition. It is necessary to implement interventions that help improve CS and prevent BO and CF among professionals in the long term.
