Comparative Study
How does the EQ-5D perform when measuring quality of life in dementia against two other dementia-specific outcome measures?
This study aimed to assess and compare the psychometric performance of the EQ-5D in relation to other dementia-specific measures, the QoL-AD and DEMQoL, within a psychosocial intervention study. ⋯ The results suggest that the EQ-5D might have advantages over other dementia-specific measures, and it could be used routinely and as a stand-alone measure of quality of life in dementia research.

To investigate the relationships among symptom severity, coping styles, and quality of life (QOL) in community-dwelling women with urinary incontinence (UI). ⋯ The use of avoidant and palliative coping styles was higher with more severe urine leakage, and QOL tended to be poorer. Coping styles should be addressed in UI management. It may be of particular value to look closely at negative coping styles and implement education and training of patients in improving their coping skills related to managing UI, which will in turn improve their QOL.

Reducing participant burden is important in health research and clinical assessment. We examined the psychometric properties of the EUROHIS-QOL 8-item index, a short version of the 26-item World Health Organisation Quality of Life questionnaire (WHOQOL-Bref), in a sample of people receiving joint replacement surgery. ⋯ The EUROHIS-QOL 8-item index demonstrated adequate properties as a unidimensional scale and as a two-factor scale evaluating general health and function, and psychosocial aspects of quality of life. It is low on clinical and participant burden, showed minimal ceiling effects and showed good concurrent and discriminant validity.

Dynamic weight-bearing assessment of pain in knee osteoarthritis: a reliability and agreement study.
To evaluate the reliability, agreement and smallest detectable change in a measurement instrument for pain and function in knee osteoarthritis; the Dynamic weight-bearing Assessment of Pain (DAP). ⋯ The reproducibility of the DAP pain score meets the demands for use in clinical practice and research. The total knee bend could be useful for motivational purpose in clinical use. Testing of other psychometric properties of the DAP is pending.

Due to the problem of high ceiling effects of the EQ-5D-3L, the EQ-5D-5L was developed. However, little was known about the full psychometric properties of the EQ-5D-5L. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate its practicality, reliability, validity, and responsiveness in Thai patients with chronic diseases. ⋯ The EQ-5D-5L was practical, reliable, valid, and responsive in Thai patients with chronic diseases.
