Background and Objectives: Solid-organ transplant recipients (SOTRs) are notably considered at risk for developing cutaneous malignancies. However, most of the existing literature is focused on kidney transplant-related non-melanoma skin cancers (NMSCs). Conflicting data have been published so far on NMSC incidence among liver transplant recipients (LTRs), and whether LTRs really should be considered at lower risk remains controversial. ⋯ Four patients developed in situ squamous cell carcinomas, and one patient was diagnosed with stage I malignant melanoma. Otherwise, well-established risk factors for the occurrence of skin tumors, such as skin phototype, cumulative sun exposure, and familial history of cutaneous neoplasms, seemed to have no direct impact on skin cancer occurrence in our cohort, as well as an immunosuppressive regimen and the occurrence of non-cutaneous neoplasms. Conclusions: Close dermatological follow-up is crucial for LTRs, and shared protocols of regular skin checks in this particular subset of patients are needed in transplant centers.

Introduction: Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) is one of the most frequently occurring types of cancer in humans. Scientometric research is an innovative method for analyzing the research trends in various domains, with great implications in the field of medicine. Materials and Methods: We searched the Web of Science database with the following established query terms: "Squamous cell carcinoma", "skin", and "immunohistochemistry". ⋯ The distribution of the citations shows the importance of the available research on cSCCs by analyzing the first five most-cited articles included in our study in direct concordance with the seven defined clusters. Conclusion: The scientometric research method reveals the interest of research in the multidisciplinary approach used to obtain the best outcomes for the patient, including a targeted investigation, as well as diagnostic and treatment options. The trends in the research reveal that histopathological diagnostics and immunohistochemistry, combined with molecular techniques, are the most important tools used to establish a personalized diagnosis, thus increasing the quality of life and life expectancy for patients with cSCCs.

Checkpoint programmed death-1 (PD-1) has been identified as an immunosuppressive molecule implicated in the immune evasion of transformed cells. It is highly expressed in tumor cells in order to evade host immunosurveillance. In this study, we aimed to assess the association between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) of PD-1 and the risk of colorectal cancer (CRC) in the Saudi population. ⋯ In addition, the PD-1 rs10204525 AA homozygote genotype was associated with a high risk of developing CRC in the codominant (OR = 21.65; p = 0.0014), recessive (OR = 10.97; p = 0.0015), and additive (OR = 1.98; p = 0.012) models. A weak protective effect was found for the rs2227981 GG genotype (OR = 2.52; p = 0.034), and no significant association was found between the rs2227982 and CRC. Haplotype analysis showed that the rs10204525, rs2227981, rs2227982 A-A-G haplotype was associated with a significantly increased risk of CRC (OR = 6.79; p =0.031).

Background and Objectives: The COVID-19 pandemic is a serious global health problem. Vaccination is suggested to be one of the most efficacious precautionary measures, in combination with other protective behaviors. The purpose of this study was to explore the association of students’ intention to get vaccinated about COVID-19 with protection behaviors and perceptions about the pandemic. ⋯ Lower general perception of risk had statistically significant association with lower determination to obtain the vaccines of COVID-19 (p < 0.001). Personally knowing someone who had the coronavirus and undertaking more behavioral changes due to the coronavirus situation were significantly related to greater determination to obtain the vaccines of COVID-19 (p = 0.005 and p < 0.001, respectively). Conclusions: The results of this study can provide universities with the appropriate information about the improvement of COVID-19 vaccination strategies.

Background and Objectives: There is limited information regarding comparison of long-term dynamics of periapical bone destruction estimated by digital periapical radiography (DPR) and by cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). This study aimed to compare the radiographically assessed periapical changes of endodontically treated teeth over 2 years of follow-up and to analyse disagreements in periapical lesion size estimates around the same roots using DPR and CBCT. Materials and Methods: A total of 176 endodontically treated teeth, of 128 patients with apical periodontitis, were assessed by DPR and CBCT, at baseline and after 2 years. ⋯ The CBCT-based evaluation resulted in negative treatment outcomes for 10 more root canals than the DPR-based result. Conclusions: Most remarkable disagreement between DPR and CBCT recordings was observed within the radiolucency categories S2 and S3. However, the diagnostic accuracy of both radiographic methods was questionable as it resulted in a high proportion of non-matching S0-S1 lesion transitions over 2 years.
