Background and Objectives: Nucleotide Excision Repair (NER), the most extensively researched DNA repair mechanism, is responsible for repairing a variety of DNA damages, and Xeroderma Pigmentosum (XP) genes participate in NER. Herein, we aimed to update the previous results with a meta-analysis evaluating the association of XPA, XPB/ERCC3, XPF/ERCC4, and XPG/ERCC5 polymorphisms with the susceptibility to HNC. Materials and Methods: PubMed/Medline, Web of Science, Scopus, and Cochrane Library databases were searched without any restrictions until 18 November 2023 to find relevant studies. ⋯ In addition, the CT genotype (OR: 0.65; 95%CI: 0.48, 0.89; p-value is 0.008) of the rs751402 polymorphism was associated with a decreased risk, and the T allele (OR: 1.28; 95%CI: 1.05, 1.57; p-value is 0.02), the TT (OR: 1.74; 95%CI: 1.10, 2.74; p-value is 0.02), and the TT + CT (OR: 2.22; 95%CI: 1.04, 4.74; p-value is 0.04) genotypes were associated with an increased risk of HNC. Conclusions: The analysis identified two polymorphisms, rs17655 and rs751402, as being significantly associated with the risk of HNC. The study underscored the influence of various factors, such as the type of cancer, ethnicity, source of control, and sample size on these associations.

Cystic fibrosis-related diabetes (CFRD) is the most common comorbidity in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF). CFRD has been correlated with important clinical outcomes, including poor nutrition, reduced pulmonary function, and earlier mortality. However, clinical decline due to abnormalities of blood glucose (dysglycemia) begins early in CF, before the diagnosis of CFRD by the gold-standard oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). ⋯ Several CGM parameters have been used to predict CFRD in some but not all studies, and there is no consensus regarding CGM use for diagnostic purposes. Thus, it remains a complementary test to OGTT in CFRD diagnosis. The aim of this review is to provide an update on the pathophysiological mechanisms of CFRD, recent advances in the use of CGM for CFRD screening, and the association between CGM measures and CF-related clinical outcomes.

Background and Objectives: Reducing opioid exposure in common pediatric surgeries is of paramount importance. This study aimed to assess the efficacy of regional nerve blocks in reducing opioid exposure while preserving high success rates. Materials and Methods: We conducted a retrospective matched cohort study (1:1) including patients with elbow fractures < 12 years old who underwent treatment with percutaneous pinning. ⋯ GA-SCB, 3.2 ± 3.0 mg vs. 0.9 ± 1.8 mg, p < 0.001). Conclusions: SCB application in pediatric patients who underwent elbow fracture surgery significantly reduced opioid exposure and had a high success rate when performed using ultrasound guidance by an expert. Furthermore, the complication risk and surgical delay were minimal.

An irreparable rotator cuff tear is a challenging condition to treat, and various treatment modalities are being introduced. Medialization in the partial repair method has the limitation of exposing the tuberosity, while tension-free biologic interposition tuberoplasty using acellular dermal matrix has the limitation of exposing the humeral head. The authors believe that by combining these two techniques, it is possible to complement each other's limitations. Therefore, they propose a surgical method that combines medialization and biologic interposition tuberoplasty for addressing these constraints.

Background and Objectives: Although perioperative immunotherapy is implemented as a standard of care for resected non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), there is unmet need for predictive biomarkers as programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) is not the perfect one. The functionality of tumour-infiltrating immune cells in the tumour microenvironment (TME) and the involvement in immune system response is one of the crucial factors that lead to pro- or anti-tumourigenic role and could predict response to PD-1 and PD-L1 inhibitors. So, the investigation of PD-L1 expression in the context of TME in early stages of resected NSCLC is urgent required. ⋯ No association was found between PD-L1 alone or in combination with tumour-infiltrating lymphocytes, macrophages, and disease-free or overall survival. Conclusions: This study results revealed that rates of PD-L1 expression correlated among three scoring methods (TPS, IC, and CPS). Moreover, PD-L1 expression was significantly associated with smoking intensity, squamous histology, and tumour-infiltrating immune cells.
