Background and Objectives: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a degenerative disease that is continuously targeting people of different ages, but especially the elderly population, the number of which tends to increase continuously at the global level. Apart from age, excess weight can influence the evolution of the disease, with obesity being associated with a weak inflammation stage and an imbalance between pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines. The present work aimed to analyze specific biomarkers, namely ACRP-30, IL-10, TNF-α, and IL-6, in knee synovial fluid, and correlate them with KOA patients' clinical data, radiographic changes, and functional and pain scores. ⋯ Regarding interleukins and BMI, significant correlations were observed only in the case of men. Conclusions: A significant correlation between age and adiponectin, and adiponectin and IL-6, suggests that advanced age may contribute to adiponectin reduction. Comparing men with women, it was observed that men's age is more related to rigidity, and IL-6 and IL-10 are directly correlated to BMI; in addition, women seem to be more sensitive to pain and stiffness.

Background: Treatment options for inoperable chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) or persistent pulmonary hypertension after pulmonary endarterectomy (PEA) include targeted medical therapy and balloon pulmonary angioplasty (BPA). BPA is an emerging treatment modality that has been reported to improve functional capacity, pulmonary hemodynamics, and right ventricular function. Reports from expert centers are promising, but more data are needed to make the results more generalizable. ⋯ Additionally, an improvement in pulmonary hemodynamic parameters was observed. Conclusions: Our data show that BPA is an effective interventional treatment modality, improving both the pulmonary hemodynamics and functional status. Moreover, BPA is safe and excellently tolerated.

Background and Objectives: The incidence of osteoporotic hip fractures in Niigata Prefecture, Japan, has been studied approximately every 5 years since 1985. In 2020, as in previous surveys, a prefecture-wide survey was initiated as planned; however, the global outbreak of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) began simultaneously. This study aimed to compare the results of the 2015 and 2020 Niigata Prefecture Fragility Hip Fracture Surveys to determine whether the COVID-19 pandemic affected the occurrence and treatment of proximal femoral fractures throughout Niigata Prefecture. ⋯ Conclusions: In Niigata Prefecture, Japan, the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the number and rate of fractures was minuscule. The proportion of indoor fractures to outdoor fractures increased during the emergency declaration period. Considering that the number of fragility fractures remains the same during an infectious disease pandemic such as COVID-19, it is necessary to ensure that healthcare resources are available to deal with them.

Behçet's Disease, Pathogenesis, Clinical Features, and Treatment Approaches: A Comprehensive Review.
Behçet's disease is a systemic inflammatory disorder of unknown etiology. The disease manifests with diverse clinical symptoms, most commonly recurrent oral and genital ulcers, skin lesions, and uveitis, though it can affect multiple organ systems. Diagnosis is primarily clinical due to the lack of a definitive diagnostic test, and management involves a multidisciplinary approach to control inflammation and manage symptoms. ⋯ Behçet's disease exhibits a higher prevalence along the Silk Road, suggesting a role of environmental and genetic factors. Despite significant progress in understanding its clinical characteristics and treatment approaches, gaps remain in our understanding of its pathogenesis. Future research is needed to elucidate the disease's pathophysiology and optimize treatment strategies.
