Background and Objectives: Patients with advanced head and neck tumors require salvage surgery as a last resort. These extensive surgeries pose the challenge of complex reconstructions. The head and neck surgeon undertaking such complex cases needs to master different flaps. ⋯ Conclusions: Complications such as flap necrosis, infection, hematoma, and donor site morbidity were documented across studies, highlighting the importance of meticulous surgical planning and postoperative care. Furthermore, the review revealed emerging techniques such as computer-aided design, virtual surgery, stereolithographic models, customized implants, tissue engineering, and allotransplants, offering promising reconstructive armamentarium. Advances in surgical techniques and emerging technologies hold promise for further enhancing reconstructive outcomes, minimizing morbidity, and improving patient quality of life.

Endometriosis, an inflammatory disease primarily affecting the pelvis and peritoneum, manifests with pelvic pain, dysmenorrhea, dyschezia, dyspareunia, and infertility. Despite its ubiquity, the management of endometriosis is challenging due to its heterogeneous presentation, limitations in diagnostic methods, variable therapeutic responses, and personal and socio-cultural impact on quality of life. This review attempts to consolidate the current literature on endometriosis occurring during and beyond menopause, and to present details regarding management strategies that take into account individual outcomes and goals when managing this condition. ⋯ Despite a better understanding of the impact of endometriosis beyond menopause, there are many limitations to this condition, specifically with regard to cancer risk and indications for surgery. The existing evidence supports the use of shared decision making and the incorporation of patient preferences in guiding clinical management. Future research endeavors must shed light on the natural history of postmenopausal endometriosis through longitudinal studies in order to foster a deeper understanding of its complicated disease course across women's lifespans.

Early Cognitive Function after Deep Sedation Using Different Anesthetic Agents in Pediatric Patients: A Prospective, Randomized Controlled Trial.
Background and Objectives: The impact of anesthetic agents on memory and cognitive function following general anesthesia is of great interest, particularly regarding their effects on the developing pediatric brain. While numerous studies have examined the relationship between anesthetic drugs and brain function, research focusing on early cognitive function following sedation remains limited. Materials and Methods: This study was a prospective, randomized controlled trial involving 148 pediatric patients scheduled for hematological procedures, specifically bone marrow aspiration (BMA) and intrathecal chemotherapy (ITC). ⋯ However, the IVG demonstrated higher behavior response scores compared to the IHG. Conclusions: There were no significant differences in the rates of correct responses using the ERA tool between the two groups, irrespective of the number of sedation procedures performed. While some differences were noted in preoperative, intraoperative, and post-anesthesia care, these did not significantly impact the cognitive outcomes measured.

Background and Objectives: The Foot Function Index (FFI) is a widely recognized patient-reported outcome measure (PROM) for assessing foot functionality and its impact on quality of life in individuals with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). This study aimed to observe the behavior of the tool in the Spanish population with RA, optimize the tool, and check its functionality. Materials and Methods: A total of 549 RA patients, with a predominant female participation (75.6%). ⋯ The revised FFI demonstrated good internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.96) and test-retest reliability (ICC = 0.89). Conclusions: This study highlights the applicability of the FFI in Spanish-speaking RA populations, offering a valid and reliable tool for clinicians and researchers. The modifications enhance the FFI's relevance for RA patients, facilitating better assessment and management of foot-related functional impairments.

Background and Objectives: Minimally invasive trauma management, including interventional radiology and non-operative approaches, has proven effective. Consequently, our hospital established a trauma IVR protocol called "Ohta Nishinouchi Hospital trauma protocol (ONH trauma protocol) in 2013, mainly for trunk trauma. However, the efficacy of the ONH trauma protocol has remained unverified. ⋯ Conclusions: The ITSA showed no association between the protocol and mortality. However, before-and-after testing revealed a positive impact on mortality. A comprehensive analysis, including ITSA, is recommended over before-and-after comparisons to assess the impact of the protocol.
