Background and Objectives: Orthodontic appliances may cause discomfort for patients. This could influence the person's psychological well-being. The aim of this study was to examine the psychological health of patients wearing orthodontic appliances. ⋯ A total of 45% of subjects stated that they felt unhappy at least sometimes. A total of 43% of subjects felt stress. Conclusions: Even though patients indicated various negative aspects on their well-being during treatment, for the majority of the subjects, the end results significantly increased their psychological well-being.

Background and Objectives: The prevalence of depressive symptoms during pregnancy is about 20%, and 10-15% in the postpartum period. Suicide is a worrying cause of death among women in these periods. Although ICD-10 lacks specific definitions for perinatal depression (it is planned in ICD-11), the DSM-5 defines it. ⋯ Relationship quality is significantly correlated with DASS-21 test results before childbirth, in the second week, and in the second month after childbirth (p < 0.01), and it is significantly different in women with and without depressive symptoms (before childbirth, in the second week, and in the second month after childbirth, p < 0.01). Conclusions: There are risk factors that can be addressed preventively and therapeutically during pregnancy and in labor. This could be achieved through psychotherapy, partner support, and appropriate management of labor.

Background: Raman spectroscopy is a well-known tool used in criminology, molecular biology, and histology. It is also applied to diagnose bone mineral disorders by taking advantage of the similarity of the structure of keratin and bone collagen. Raman spectroscopy can also be used in dermatology and diabetology. ⋯ Additionally, Raman spectroscopy could expedite the diagnostic process in psoriasis (by assessing the secondary structure of keratin) and in diabetes mellitus (by examining the protein glycation level). Conclusions: In adult populations, Raman spectroscopy is a promising and safe method for assessing the structure of fingernails. However, data are scarce in the pediatric population; therefore, more studies are required in children.

Background and Objectives: Ovarian cancer, including tubal and peritoneal cancer, is the third most common gynecological cancer and the leading cause of death from gynecological malignancies in developed countries. This study explores the prognostic value of the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in determining the optimal duration of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) for advanced ovarian cancer. It also investigates the correlation between NLR dynamics and the KELIM score, a chemosensitivity marker, to enhance individualized therapeutic strategies. ⋯ The KELIM score indicated a more effective treatment response, with higher scores correlating with better outcomes. The majority of patients achieved R0 resection, and those with favorable KELIM scores showed improved survival rates. Conclusions: The NLR is a valuable prognostic marker for assessing treatment response and guiding NACT duration in advanced ovarian cancer.

Background and objectives: The main problem of vascular preservation is the maintenance of vessel graft quality and function following extended storage. Conventional preservation solutions such as histidine-tryptophan-ketoglutarate (HTK) solution, Phosphate-Buffer Solution (PBS), or sodium chloride 0.9% has been shown to be inadequate in preserving vascular physiological function after 3 days of cold storage. This study aimed to evaluate whether adenosine and lidocaine (AL) in a modified Krebs-Henseleit (KH) solution can preserve the function and histological structure of rat aortic rings after 6 days. ⋯ However, only the addition of AL to the modified KH increased the ACh-induced relaxation at 6 days when compared to the conventional KH, suggesting that endothelium preservation is improved. From histological analysis, it was found that the addition of AL but not ALMI further improved the endothelial lining and the structure of the elastic membrane layers of the preserved vessels after 6 days of cold preservation. Conclusions: The addition of AL to low calcium-high magnesium KH solution significantly enhanced endothelial preservation and improved endothelial-induced relaxation of preserved vessels after 6 days of cold storage.
