Background and Objectives: The new molecular classification of endometrial cancer continuously changes the management of the disease in everyday clinical practice. Recently, FIGO released a new staging system for endometrial cancer, which incorporates molecular substages and subdivides further early-stage disease. The aim of this study was to investigate the differences between the two FIGO staging systems and evaluate the prognostic precision of the new one. ⋯ Results: Sixty-seven (15.5%) patients had a stage shift and the majority of them concerned early-stage disease and specifically an upshift from 2009 stages IA and IB to 2023 stage IIC. Concerning survival, a better median and 5-year PFS was present in stage II disease, and when comparing the prognostic precision of the two FIGO staging systems no significant difference was present. Conclusions: The new 2023 FIGO staging system better distinguishes early-stage endometrial cancer into its prognostic groups and seems to be as precise as the old 2009 FIGO staging system.

Background and Objectives: Medication errors significantly impact patient safety, potentially causing adverse drug events (ADEs), increasing morbidity and mortality and prolonging hospital stays. This systematic review aimed to identify common medication errors in Saudi hospitals, their contributing factors, and effective prevention strategies. Materials and Methods: Following PRISMA-P guidelines, a comprehensive review of the literature published after 2019 was conducted. ⋯ Although less frequent, omission errors still hold significance. Conclusions: This review emphasizes the importance of comprehensive, proactive approaches to preventing medication errors. Integrating evidence-based strategies, fostering a safety culture, and continuously monitoring and evaluating interventions can significantly enhance medication safety and improve patient outcomes in Saudi Arabian hospitals.

Periodontitis can disrupt oral and gut microbiota, leading to dysbiosis that affects overall systemic health. Besides the spread of periodontal pathogens by the hematogenous route, they can also be translocated into the gastrointestinal tract, possibly intervening in the neoplastic process in the gastrointestinal tract. This manuscript reviews the relationship between oral and gut microbiota due to periodontitis, discussing systemic health implications and potential links to gastrointestinal cancer. ⋯ The search used keywords such as ("oral microbiota" AND "periodontal disease") OR ("oral microbiota" AND "gastrointestinal cancer") OR ("Porphyromonas gingivalis" AND "periodontal disease") OR ("Helicobacter pylori" AND "gastric cancer") OR ("gut microbiome" AND "inflammatory bowel disease") OR ("oral microbiome" AND "systemic diseases"). Conclusions: The dysbiotic change in the oral cavity due to periodontitis is linked directly and indirectly to systemic diseases such as IBS, neurodegenerative diseases, muscle joint diseases, respiratory infections, and gastrointestinal cancer; this underscores the importance of maintaining oral hygiene for prophylaxis of oral diseases and the prevention of systemic diseases. A better understanding of the interconnections between oral health and systemic diseases will integrate oral health management to offer new prevention, diagnostic, and treatment opportunities to improve overall patient outcomes.

Background: Coronavirus Disease-2019 (COVID-19) has posed formidable challenges to healthcare systems. Exploring novel biomarkers that can provide valuable prognostic insights, particularly in critically ill patients, has a significant importance. Against this backdrop, our study aims to elucidate the associations between serum chloride levels and clinical outcomes. ⋯ A total of 65 (13%) patients died, 40 (61.5%) of whom received tocilizumab; 41 (63%) were in the ICU. Serum chloride levels upon admission were markedly lower and elevated D-dimer levels were apparent in tocilizumab users, patients requiring ICU care, and patients who died. Conclusions: our findings provide robust evidence supporting the value of serum chloride levels as a prognostic biomarker in critically ill COVID-19 patients.

Background and Objectives: Acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is a leading cause of death and disability with poor long-term outcomes. Creating a predictive score for long-term mortality in AIS might be important for optimizing treatment strategies. The aim of this study is to develop and validate a predictive score for three-year mortality in patients with AIS using several demographic, clinical, laboratory and imaging parameters. ⋯ Leptin levels did not significantly predict mortality. Conclusions: This study developed and validated a promising predictive score for three-year mortality in patients with AIS. Advanced age, high NIHSS scores, low hemoglobin levels, elevated resistin levels and the presence of carotid plaques were the independent predictors of long-term mortality.
