Case ReportsOrganic antigen-induced interstitial lung disease: diagnosis and management.
Traditionally, chronic idiopathic interstitial pneumonia/fibrosis (IIP/F) had included usual interstitial pneumonia, desquamative interstitial pneumonia, and nonspecific interstitial pneumonia (NSIP). More recent classifications have included bronchiolitis obliterans-organizing pneumonia (BOOP), respiratory bronchiolitis-associated interstitial lung disease, and acute interstitial pneumonia. Some chronic eosinophilic pneumonias (CEP)/pulmonary infiltrate with eosinophilia (PIE) have obvious causes, but many lack an identifiable etiology. We felt that hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP) was being underdiagnosed and was hidden within this large heterogeneous group of interstitial lung disorders of unrecognized cause. ⋯ Our data show that UIP, BOOP, NSIP, CEP/PIE, and nonclassifiable morphologic patterns represent a spectrum of interstitial lung disease that may be caused by inhalation of organic dusts in the home or workplace as described with HP. Remediation of, or moving from the contamination, can lead to arrest of the active inflammatory process and stability of the lung disorder.

Latex aeroallergen quantification in hospitals of Moscow, Russia.
Health care workers (HCWs) who use latex gloves regularly are at a significant risk for developing allergic sensitization to natural rubber latex (NRL) proteins. The airborne route of exposure presents a hazard for sensitization and subsequent allergic symptoms. ⋯ This study indicates that, in general, the airborne NRL concentrations in the work areas of Moscow hospitals are rather low compared with NRL concentrations reported from American hospitals and are dependent on the intensity of latex glove usage.

Case ReportsChickpea: a major food allergen in the Indian subcontinent and its clinical and immunochemical correlation.
The food allergy pattern of a country is influenced by the foods most commonly consumed. In India, the majority of the population consumes a vegetarian diet made up of pulse (legumes), cereals, and vegetables. In contrast to many western countries, chickpea preparations are consumed in large quantities in India. This study reports for the first time chickpea hypersensitivity reactions diagnosed with in vivo and in vitro tests. ⋯ Chickpea is an important source of allergen that can cause IgE-mediated hypersensitivity reactions ranging from rhinitis to anaphylaxis.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative Study Clinical TrialDouble-blind multicenter study on the efficacy and tolerability of cetirizine compared with oxatomide in chronic idiopathic urticaria in preschool children.
There are no studies on the use of cetirizine in children under the age of 6. ⋯ The results of the present study suggest that cetirizine may represent an effective and safe pharmacologic therapy for chronic urticaria in preschool children. There was no evidence for changes in hematochemical and urinary values, demonstrating the safety and the tolerability of the two antihistamines, even when given to young children.
