Continuous nebulization therapy for asthma with aerosols of beta2 agonists.
Various studies have demonstrated the benefits of continuous nebulization therapy for delivering aerosols of the beta2 agonists such as terbutaline sulfate or albuterol sulfate to patients with severe asthma and/or impending respiratory failure. ⋯ Continuous nebulization therapy is an important means of treating patients with severe asthma. Dosage criteria can be established based on the operating characteristics of the nebulizer system, drug solution concentration, and patient respiration.

Comparative StudySevere acute asthma in a community hospital pediatric intensive care unit: a ten years' experience.
The clinical literature on the incidence and subsequent mortality of asthma has come primarily from the experiences of large tertiary referral centers, particularly in Western Europe and North America. Consequently, very little has been published on the incidence, management, and outcome of asthma in smaller, community-based intensive care units. ⋯ These data show that for acute severe asthma, outcome is comparable in a community PICU to a tertiary referral institution. We conclude that early ICU admission along with close monitoring is important in reducing morbidity and mortality in children with severe asthma.

Comparative StudyAerobiologic and immunochemical studies on Borassus flabellifer pollen: evidence for a 90-kD allergen.
The pollen grains of Arecaceae have been proved to be a very common aeroallergen in India. Except for the pollen grains of Cocos nucifera, detailed information about the allergenicity of other dominant Indian palm pollen is not available. ⋯ The aerobiologic, clinical, and immunochemical, studies demonstrated that the pollen of B. flabellifer is a dominant aeroallergen to cause respiratory trouble in the area where these trees grow. The isolated 90-kD component is one of the major allergens present in the pollen extract.

Allergic and immunologic profile of symptomatic Persian Gulf War veterans.
Persian Gulf War veterans have been enrolled in the Veterans Administration Persian Gulf Health Registry for evaluation of unexplained symptoms and illnesses. The allergy and immunology division at the West Los Angeles Veterans Administration Medical Center evaluated 20 consecutive symptomatic Persian Gulf War veterans. ⋯ Our study showed that 20 Persian Gulf veterans with a multitude of nonspecific symptoms had no immune abnormality. Mean IgE levels and eosinophil counts correlated with atopic state and reported allergy symptoms.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical TrialA systemic bioactivity comparison of double-strength and regular-strength beclomethasone dipropionate MDI formulations.
The efficacy and safety of regular-strength beclomethasone dipropionate MDI prescribed within its recommended dosing range of 2 to 5 puffs three to four times daily has been well established in more than 25 years of worldwide use. A more concentrated formulation delivering 84 microg per puff was developed to provide for a more convenient twice-daily dosing regimen. ⋯ Beclomethasone dipropionate, administered either via a double-strength (84 microg/puff) or regular-strength (42 microg/puff) inhaler dosed at 840 microg/day showed no evidence of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenocortical axis suppression in adults with moderate asthma.
