Fine-needle aspiration (FNA) has proven to be a safe and reliable method of investigation of thyroid lesions. Referencing to European classification, the associated risk of malignancy for TIR3, category reserved for aspirates that contain architectural and/or nuclear atypia, is variable in such studies. Aims of study were evaluating safety of surgical approach, assessing perioperative parameters surgically related, and estimating neoplastic rate for TIR3 group. ⋯ Fine-needle aspiration, Thyroidectomy, TIR3, Thyroid cancer.

Blunt trauma of the popliteal fossa is an uncommon cause of lower limb ischemia and it is associated with a high risk for limb loss. ⋯ To our knowledge we first report a multidisciplinary approach involving the vascular and plastic surgical teams to treat a wide soft tissue damage after a blunt injury to the popliteal artery.

Osteoma is a benign tumour, composed of mature compact or cancellous bone, which can arise in any facial bone. Among the paranasal sinuses, the frontal and ethmoid sinuses are most frequently involved. Osteoma grows very slowly and small lesions are often not symptomatic. On the other hand, sometimes patients present with symptoms such as sinusitis, headache or ophtalmologic manifestations. These findings are secondary to obstruction of the involved sinus cavity with secondary mucocele formation or occasionally an expansile lesion with distortion of the facial contour. ⋯ Ethmoidal sinus, Frontal sinus, Open treatment, Osteoma, Paranasal sinuses.

Stump appendicitis: a rare and unusual complication after appendectomy. Case report and review of the literature.
Stump appendicitis is a rare but important complication that can occour after an open or laparoscopic appendectomy. Although it represents a recognized serious condition that should not be overlooked, it is not often considered by surgeons within the differential diagnoses faced with a patient presenting right iliac fossa abdominal pain, particularly those who present a previous history of appendectomy. ⋯ Appendectomy, Appendicular residue, Diagnosis, Stump appendicitis.

Epidemiological data show a continuous expansion of elderly population in Europe. Older individuals require more medical services relative to their younger counterparts. The aim of this review was to summarize the most recent considerations in regards to preoperative assessment, postoperative outcomes, patient satisfaction and cost-effectiveness analysis of day surgery in the elderly. ⋯ A lot of studies show that even elderly patients can successfully undergo day surgery procedures by implementing evidence-based perioperative care programs, minimizing operative duration and tissue trauma and providing a comfortable setting.
