We assessed the correlation between three methods for measuring cortical thickness of the humerus on a plain radiograph and bone mineral density measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry in order to establish a simple bone strength evaluation method in patients at risk of proximal humerus fragility fracture. ⋯ All three methods yielded values that correlated with the dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry bone mineral density measured at the distal third radius, the proximal femur, and the lumbar spine. The correlation coefficient in the radius was high and differed significantly from those of weight-bearing bones (proximal femur, lumbar spine).

Does sagittal imbalance impact the surgical outcomes of short-segment fusion for lumbar spinal stenosis associated with degenerative lumbar scoliosis?
The degenerative lumbar scoliosis (DLS) patients who mainly complained about neurogenic claudication due to spinal canal stenosis are well-indicated for short segment fusion (SSF) at the affecting levels. However, it is unclear whether we should consider global sagittal balance or not. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of sagittal balance on the surgical outcomes of degenerative lumbar scoliosis (DLS) patients who underwent SSF. ⋯ Sagittal spinal imbalance and spinopelvic malalignment significantly impact the surgical outcomes of SSF for DLS. Preoperative evaluation of spinopelvic alignment and sagittal balance is of critical importance when SSF are performed for DLS patients.

Creating a trough on the anterior glenoid rim is one of the methods used for arthroscopic Bankart repair with suture anchors. The purpose of this study was to analyze clinical and radiological outcomes of arthroscopic Bankart repair with suture anchors; to compare between the outcomes of surgical procedures with and without trough. ⋯ Level III, Case series.

Because the relationship between coaches and athletes is unequal, verbal and physical abuse remains a common problem among sports coaches. We aimed to elucidate the characteristics of baseball coaches who verbally/physically abuse young baseball players. ⋯ Level III.

This study aimed to report results of the multidisciplinary treatment approach for geriatric hip fractures and evaluate its effectiveness compared with conventional treatment. Patients aged 65 years and older who presented with a hip fracture at our hospital on or after 2014 were treated according to a multidisciplinary approach. ⋯ Multidisciplinary treatment produced no significant improvement in time to surgery, length of hospital stay, or postoperative complications. However, the use of the multidisciplinary treatment approach led to a significant increase in osteoporosis treatment rate and better functional recovery. Furthermore, the total medical costs for multidisciplinary treatment were lower than the acute care hospital costs.
