To assess the association between the Global Budget Revenue (GBR) payment model and shifts to the outpatient setting for surgical procedures among Medicare fee-for-service beneficiaries in Maryland versus control states. ⋯ Implementing Maryland's GBR payment model was associated with an acceleration in the shift from inpatient to outpatient hospital settings for surgical procedures.

To assess whether selective omission of operative drains after pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) and distal pancreatectomy (DP) is associated with adverse perioperative outcomes. ⋯ This study confirms that selective omission of operative drains does not compromise perioperative outcomes, as initially reported in our prospective randomized trial.

We aimed to establish global benchmark outcomes indicators for L-RPS/H67. ⋯ The present study established the first global benchmark values for L-RPS/H6/7. The benchmark provided an up-to-date reference of best achievable outcomes for surgical auditing and benchmarking.

To determine the clinical utility of serum CA 19-9 surveillance for detecting recurrences in resected ampullary carcinomas (ACs). ⋯ Serum CA 19-9 testing during follow-up evaluation detects recurrences early and improves survival in resected ACs, and therefore should be recommended as a routine surveillance test.
