Coughing and diaphragmatic breathing exercise: What is the repercussion on respiratory mechanics of children and adolescents with cystic fibrosis?
The aim of this study was to investigate the immediate effect of coughing episodes and diaphragmatic breathing exercise (DBE) on respiratory mechanics of children/adolescents with cystic fibrosis (CF). ⋯ The children/adolescents with CF airway resistance got worse after coughing episodes, and 10 DBE repetitions did not affect the respiratory mechanics in most of the sample. Meanwhile, in the group with older children, the DBE worsened the respiratory mechanics, yet in the younger group it improved.

Complimentary effects on glycemic and non-glycemic parameters between responder and non-responders treated with pioglitazone and canagliflozin in drug naïve subjects with type 2 diabetes.
The aim of this study was to investigate the differential regulation of metabolic parameters between pioglitazone and canagliflozin in relation to their glycaemic efficacies. ⋯ (i) Glycaemic efficacy of pioglitazone is linked to body weight and atherogenic lipids while this is not the case with canagliflozin. (ii) Responders (or non-responders) to pioglitazone have some distinct features from non-responders (or responders) to canagliflozin. Collectively, a combination of pioglitazone and canagliflozin may compensate for each other's metabolic drawbacks or augment their advantages, thereby achieving overall improvements in the metabolic profiles and pathogenic defects of patients with T2DM.

Diagnostic value of adenosine deaminase in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid for patients with lung cancer.
Lung cancer is both the most common seen malignity and cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Adenosine deaminase (ADA) is a hydrolytic enzyme that catalyses the conversion of adenosine to inosine in the purine metabolism pathway. Studies examining ADA levels in bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluids of patients with lung malignancy are very limited in the literature. Our aim examine the clinical significance of ADA levels in BAL fluids of patients with lung malignancy. ⋯ ADA levels in BAL may be a diagnostic biomarker in lung malignancies. In patients where a biopsy cannot be taken or histopathological typing cannot be performed because of tissue insufficiency, ADA levels in BAL can be an auxiliary parameter in making malignancy / histopathological diagnosis accompanied by radiological and clinical findings.

Comparison of rituximab and intravenous immunoglobulin in the treatment of autoimmune bullous diseases: Real-life data from a single center.
Rituximab (RTX) and intravenous human immunoglobulin (IVIG) have been shown to be effective in the treatment of autoimmune bullous diseases (ABD), mainly pemphigus vulgaris (PV). The present study aimed to assess the clinical response of patients with ABD, mainly PV to RTX, IVIG and combined regimen of both. Whether adding IVIG to RTX therapy affects the achievement of complete remission off therapy (CR off), reduces time to CR off, time to steroid cessation, and decreases relapse rate was also investigated. ⋯ Adding IVIG to RTX did not increase CR off rates; it also did not decrease time to CR off, time to steroid cessation, relapse rates and did not increase time to relapse. Patient and disease characteristics, including age, younger age at the time of diagnosis, lesser disease duration before RTX treatment, lesser BMI and female gender, are factors associated with CR off.

Correlation of Racial Effect with Severity of Disease and In-Hospital Outcome in Individuals Diagnosed with COVID-19.
There are many countries that inhibit diverse populations and hence, studies have been conducted to find the relation between ethnic and racial groups within a society and incidence or mortality because of coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19). ⋯ Severity and in-hospital outcome were varying considerably amongst the racial groups. East and South Asian COVID-19 patients had more severe symptoms and less recovery rate compared with other groups, late presentation may be a contributory reason. Hence, evaluation of the severity of COVID-19 in relation to the various racial groups along with demographic characteristics and other risk factors can provide baseline guidance to the clinical care providers to initiate earlier and appropriate treatment.
