Effect of multimodal preemptive analgesia on postoperative gastrointestinal function and clinical outcome in patients undergoing laparoscopic colorectal surgery.
This study aimed to investigate the effects of multimodal preemptive analgesia on postoperative gastrointestinal function and clinical outcomes in patients undergoing laparoscopic colorectal surgery. ⋯ The strategy of multimodal preemptive analgesia can effectively prevent the onset of POGD and may accelerate rehabilitation. In short, multimodal preemptive analgesia provides a novel prevention strategy for patients undergoing laparoscopic colorectal surgery.

Adherence towards COVID-19 prevention measures and associated factors in Hossana town, South Ethiopia, 2021.
The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) disease is a pandemic threat for humanity's healthcare system, social, economic, and psychological well-being for both developed and developing nations. In the case of developing nations such as the resource of Ethiopia, however, the key obstacle is to buy the vaccine and administer it to their people. In the study area, however, the degree of adherence to the COVID-19 preventive measure was not well-established. The aim of this study is to determine adherence to COVID-19 prevention measures in Hossana town. ⋯ This study found that approximately half of the participants had poor adherence to COVID-19 preventive measures. Factors associated with COVID-19 preventive measures were age, educational status, marital status, family size, and heard about complication of COVID-19 were associated with preventive measures.

How Machine Learning Facilitates Decision Making in Emergency Departments: Modelling Diagnostic Test Orders.
Since emergency departments (EDs) are responsible for providing initial care for patients who may need urgent medical care, they are highly sensitive to increased patient delays. A key factor that increases patient delays is ordering diagnostic tests. Therefore, understanding the factors increasing diagnostic test orders and proposing efficient models may facilitate decision making in EDs. ⋯ The significant factors identified here can predict increases in use of laboratory and imaging services. This could enable these services to be prepared in advance to reduce ED patient delays, thereby reducing ED overcrowding. The proposed model may also be efficiently used for decision making.

Anosmia and dysgeusia among COVID-19 patients are associated with low levels of serum Glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1).
Anosmia and dysgeusia (AD) are common amongst COVID-19 patients. These symptoms are not frequently associated with rhinorrhea or nasal congestion and the underlying mechanism is unclear. Previous reports suggested that glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) signalling plays a role in the modulation of olfaction and ageusia. We aimed to assess the correlation between GLP-1 and COVID-19-associated AD. ⋯ COVID-19 patients who reported AD had lower serum levels of GLP-1 compared with those lacking AD symptoms and COVID-19-negative individuals. These results suggest that GLP-1 may be involved in the pathogenesis of AD. However, further larger scale studies should corroborate our findings.

Comparison of Emotional Approaches of Medical Doctors Against Covid-19 Pandemic: Eastern and Western Mediterranean Countries.
Pandemics are states of disease that occur worldwide and sharply increase in populations. It causes life events which trigger anxiety, depression, anger, sleep deprivation, emotional distress and stress. World Health Organization (WHO) declared coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) a pandemic on March 11, pointing to the over 118,000 cases in over 110 countries. Many healthcare workers became ill during the pandemic and some among them died. In this study, we aimed to evaluate and compare level of stress against COVID-19 pandemic among doctors from Turkey and Italy. ⋯ The number of doctors per 1000 of population is lower and per capita visits to a physician are higher in Turkey when compared to Italy. Besides pandemic, these heavier working conditions, increased weekly working hours can cause stress for Turkish doctors. Reporting information such this study is important and international collaborations are essential to plan future prevention strategies. We need to strengthen international ties and build more international collaborations rather than staying within our national silos. Additionally, interventions to promote mental well-being in health care professionals exposed to COVID-19 need to be immediately implemented.
