The Role of the Multi Inflammatory Index as a Novel Inflammation-Related Index in the Differential Diagnosis of Massive and Non-massive Pulmonary Embolism.
Systemic inflammatory response and pro-coagulator factors are critical in acute pulmonary embolism. Recently, there is increasing evidence that the multi-inflammatory index (MII) may be prognostic in many clinical situations. The study investigated whether MII-1 and MII-2 can distinguish massive (MPE) and non-massive pulmonary embolism (NMPE). ⋯ Although MII-1 and MII-2 are simple, cheap, and easy indexes to calculate, they showed a strong ability to distinguish MPE and NMPE compared with the previously studied classical inflammatory indexes.

The relationship between vertebral deformities and thoracic arthropathy with back pain in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.
The aim of the study was to investigate the relationship between back pain and thoracic vertebral deformities and arthropathy in patients with COPD who underwent thorax CT scans to screen for lung nodules and cancer. ⋯ Back pain was present in patients with COPD and was related to vertebral deformities and facet and costotransverse joint arthropathy. Additional studies are required to clarify the relationships of back pain with musculoskeletal system diseases, including cervical and lumbar spine arthropathy and vertebral deformities.

Assisted reproductive treatment outcomes of women with endometriomas; either with or without previous ovarian surgery.
The present study aimed to evaluate and compare the assisted reproductive technique (ART) outcomes of women with endometriomas either with or without prior endometrioma surgery. ⋯ The baseline characteristics of the groups were similar. The poor ovarian response rate, defined as the harvest of fewer than four oocytes, was identified in 35.7% and 42.1% of primary and recurrent endometrioma groups, respectively. The implantation (27.2 ± 42.7% vs 24.1 ± 41.4%, P = .74), clinical pregnancy/ET (30.9% vs 27.6%, P = .93 ) and live birth rates/ET (22.1% vs 17.2%, P = .79) CONCLUSION: The ART outcomes of patients with primary and recurrent endometriomas do not seem different in terms of response to ovarian stimulation and live birth rates after ICSI. These results may indicate that the recurrence of the endometrioma might not have a further detrimental effect on ART outcome than the disease itself.

Less postoperative pain and more frequent recurrence: Can this dilemma caused by the Stapled Hemorrhoidopexy Procedure be avoided?
Although early studies highlighted the advantages of stapled haemorrhoidopexy (SH) (minimal pain and a rapid return to work), long-term follow-up revealed that residual skin tags, external prolapsed haemorrhoids and recurrence were frequent. The aim of our study was to investigate whether the above-mentioned problems could be prevented by performing additional interventions (AIs) during SH. We compared SH with and without AIs in terms of pain, wound-healing time, patient satisfaction and recurrence. ⋯ Depending on the haemorrhoid characteristics, the use of more than one repair method provides the best results. Although AIs increase pain and wound-healing time, patient counselling enhances long-term satisfaction and success.
