Correlation Analysis of Staphylococcus aureus Drug Resistance and Virulence Factors with Blood Cell Counts and Coagulation Indexes.
The influence of different Staphylococcus aureus variants on blood cells and coagulation system was evaluated by investigating the carrying status of drug resistance genes and virulence genes of methicillin-resistantStaphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and methicillin-sensitiveStaphylococcus aureus (MSSA). ⋯ The detection rate of MRSA in patients with positive Staphylococcus aureus in blood culture had exceeded 20%. The detected MRSA bacteria carried three virulence genes, tst, pvl, and sasX, which were more likely than MSSA. MRSA, which carries two virulence genes, is more likely to cause clotting disorders.

Identifying Risk Factors for Aspiration in Patients Hospitalized with Community-Acquired Pneumonia.
Aspiration pneumonia (AP) is difficult to diagnose and has poor outcomes. This case-control study aimed to explore the risk factors and delineate the antibiotic usage for AP. ⋯ Older age, male, and several comorbidities were independent risk factors for AP, and combined antibiotics treatments are common, which merits attention in accurate detection of AP in a high-risk population.

Diabetes Mellitus and HIV Infection among Newly Diagnosed Pulmonary Tuberculosis Patients in the North West Region of Cameroon: A Cross-Sectional Study.
To determine the prevalence rate of HIV and diabetes among tuberculosis (TB) patients and also the comorbidity rate. ⋯ This study reports a high prevalence of DM comorbidity and HIV coinfection among active TB patients in the North West Region of Cameroon as well as TB/HIV/DM comorbidity.

Visual Recovery and Prognosis in the Treatment of Submacular Hemorrhage due to Polypoidal Choroidal Vasculopathy and Retinal Arterial Macroaneurysm: A Retrospective Study.
This study was carried out to evaluate the visual acuity (VA), complications, and prognosis of patients diagnosed with submacular hemorrhage (SMH) from polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV) and retinal arterial macroaneurysm (RAM) treated by pars plana vitrectomy (PPV), subretinal tissue plasminogen activator (tPA), and air tamponade in vitreous cavity. It facilitates the development of generic treatment methods that can be widely used to improve vision and treat potential complications in patients with SMH, regardless of the underlying pathophysiological condition, such as PCV or RAM. ⋯ PPV combined with subretinal tPA injection and air tamponade in the vitreous cavity can facilitate modest visual recovery in patients with SMH due to PCV and RAM. However, some complications may occur, and their management remains challenging.

Prognostic Value of Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio and Vaccination for Negative Conversion Time of Nucleic Acid in Nonsevere COVID-19 Patients Infected by SARS-CoV-2 Omicron Variant.
SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant is significantly different from all the previous variants and has rapidly replaced other variants as the dominant variant across the globe. An easily obtained, inexpensive, and rapid marker is needed to predict the negative conversion time (NCT) of nucleic acid in nonsevere COVID-19 patients infected by the Omicron variant. This retrospective study enrolled 226 patients infected by the Omicron variant between April 23, 2022, and May 16, 2022. ⋯ Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that high NLR (NLR > 2.22, hazard ratio (HR):0.718, 95% CI: 0.534-0.964, p = 0.028) and vaccination (vaccinated ≥1 dose, HR: 1.536, 95% CI: 1.147-2.058, p = 0.004) were independently associated with NCT of nucleic acid. NLR is a rapid, simple, and useful prognostic factor for predicting NCT of nucleic acid in nonsevere COVID-19 patients with the Omicron variant. In addition, vaccination may also play a valuable role in predicting the NCT of nucleic acid.
