Comparative Study[Use of ropivacaine in axillary brachial plexus block].
The aim of the study was to evaluate the efficiency and safety of ropivacaine, in comparison with bupivacaine, in axillary brachial plexus block. 24 patients, undergoing upper limb surgery, was divided into 2 homogeneous groups and the local anaesthetics was administered: A (ropivacaine 0.75%, 25 ml; total dose 187.5 mg) and B (bupivacaine 0.5%, 25 ml; total dose 125 mg). The axillary plexus block was executed with the help of an electrostimulator. The results show that using ropivacaine the onset-time is lower and the duration of sensory and motor block is higher than using bupivacaine. In conclusion we can affirm that ropivacaine is a new step in local anaesthetic field.

[Comparison of results of short- and long-term therapy of obesity].
A study concerning long term results of dietetic treatment of obesity has been conducted on 1479 obese women, aged 16 to 76 years, who attended the ambulatory during the period 1992-1995. Best results in short term reduction of weight excess were found in obesity due to sedentariness or arisen after operations or emotional stress. Also, it has been noticed that percentage of subjects who went on to loose weight decreased after first year of treatment instead, percentage of subjects who grew fat increased. So, authors believe that long term therapy main object in obese people isn't loss of weight but to avoid further weight increases.

Transcranial doppler sonography is a diagnostic tool that allows the noninvasive study of intracranial circulation. In patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, cerebral vasospasm is promptly diagnosed, even before clinical related symptoms. Feeding arteries of an arteriovenous cerebral malformation can be detected and their variations can be correlated to the treatment (neurosurgical and/or neuroradiological). When raised intracranial pressure (namely in head trauma), transcranial doppler sonography depicts vasospasm and/or typical variations of the waveforms, suggesting intracranial circulatory arrest.

Review[Treatment of chronic obliterative arteriopathy of the legs in the second Fontaine's stage. Personal experience with a buflomedil-pentoxifylline-defibrotide combination].
The authors provide evidence for the efficacy of the buflomedil-pentoxifylline-defibrotide combination for treatment of lower limb chronic obstructive arterial disease, Fontain stage II. Improvement of walking autonomy obtained with these agents ranged from 50 to 100% in 29 of 36 patients (relative frequency = 0.80).

Review Comparative Study[Water-electrolyte and acid-base balance in surgery. Problems in the postoperative period].
In addition to metabolic conditions, water-electrolyte and acid-base balance in the postoperative period are of major importance for the success of surgery. The principal water-electrolyte changes (hyperhydration and hypotonic dehydration, hypertonic dehydration, "third space" syndrome, etc.) and acid-base (acidosis, and metabolic and respiratory alkalosis) disorders are briefly described as they are observed in the postoperative period together with their pathophysiologic mechanisms and therapy. The identification and correction of these changes may avoid the onset of patterns due to reduced therapeutic surveillance.
