Healthcare utilization and costs in women diagnosed with endometriosis before and after diagnosis: a longitudinal analysis of claims databases.
To assess healthcare resource utilization and costs during the 5 years before and 5 years after diagnosis among women with endometriosis, in comparison with women without endometriosis. ⋯ Endometriosis poses a significantly high economic burden, both before and after diagnosis. The highest resource utilization and costs experienced by endometriosis patients occur in the first year after diagnosis.

Macrophage migration inhibitory factor as a potential biomarker of endometriosis.
To evaluate the expression of MIF, CD74, and COX-2 in normal, ectopic, and eutopic endometrium during the menstrual cycle and to assess MIF level in peripheral blood. ⋯ Dynamic expression of MIF, CD74, and COX-2 during the menstrual cycle could play an essential role in reproduction, inflammation, and endometrium reconstruction. A higher expression of these genes in ectopic endometrium can be considered as a molecular biomarker for endometriosis development and pathophysiology. Also, a high level of MIF in blood serum can act as a biomarker in the diagnosis of endometriosis.

BRCA1 germline mutations may be associated with reduced ovarian reserve.
To determine whether BRCA carriers have a decreased ovarian reserve compared with women without BRCA mutations, because BRCA mutations may lead to accelerated oocyte apoptosis due to accumulation of damaged DNA. ⋯ BRCA1 carriers have lower age- and BMI-adjusted serum AMH levels compared with women without BRCA mutations. Our results contribute to the current body of literature regarding BRCA carriers and their reproductive outcomes. Larger prospective studies with clinical outcomes such as infertility and age at menopause in this population are needed to further substantiate our findings.

Utility of ultrasound in the diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome in adolescents.
To determine the utility of transabdominal pelvic ultrasound in the diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) during adolescence. ⋯ The prevalence of ovarian morphology meeting the sonographic modified Rotterdam criteria by TAUS in girls with PCOS was markedly higher than in the adolescents serving as a comparison group. PCOM findings by the sonographic modified Rotterdam criteria were uncommon in the nongynecologic comparison group, in contrast to previous reports. TAUS may provide useful information in the evaluation of PCOS during adolescence, even in obese adolescents.

Is frozen embryo transfer cycle associated with a significantly lower incidence of ectopic pregnancy? An analysis of more than 30,000 cycles.
To analyze the incidence of ectopic pregnancy (EP) in fresh compared with frozen-thawed cycles. ⋯ Frozen-thawed ET cycles were associated with a statistically significantly lower risk of EP when compared with fresh cycles. These findings are consistent with ovarian stimulation being associated with an increased risk of EP.
