A 10-year retrospective analysis of intimate partner violence patients in the emergency department.
Intimate partner violence (IPV) is an important human rights problem faced by one in three women worldwide. The aim of this study is to evaluate the demographic, trauma, and radiological characteristics of patients admitted to a tertiary emer-gency department due to IPV. ⋯ Female patients are more frequently exposed to IPV. Specific injury characteristics can be detected in patients diagnosed with IPV and old fractures detected in these patients should alert the clinician about IPV.

Neuroprotective effects of adrenomedullin in experimental traumatic brain injury model in rats.
Traumatic brain injuries cause damages in the brain in several ways, which include cell death because of edema, disruption of the blood-brain barrier, shear stress, and ischemia. In this study, we investigated the effects of adrenomedullin (AM) on oxidative stress and inflammation after head traumas in a rat model. ⋯ These results indicate that AM has neuroprotective effects on traumatic brain injury in a rat model.

Randomized Controlled TrialA new posterior stabilization technique in pediatric subaxial cervical vertebrae: Stabilization of spinous processes with the microplate/screw system: A radiological anatomy study.
There are limited options for posterior stabilization techniques in cases of cervical subaxial instability in children. We designed this study to investigate whether the spinous process (SP) stabilization, which was previously used in adults, can also be used in children. ⋯ According to the results of this study, we believe that the SP stabilization method recommended for children can be used as a salvage method, to support anterior stabilization or alone in a small number of selected cases.

Clinical characteristics and outcomes of ocular injuries in pediatric patients.
Childhood eye injuries are one of the most common causes of acquired unilateral blindness. In this study, our purpose was to investigate the demographics, etiology, and outcome of pediatric patients with ocular injury. ⋯ Anterior segment damage is the main cause of visual morbidity in pediatric ocular trauma. Injuries with sharp objects occur twice as often as blunt trauma and reduce vision with residual corneal scarring in about two-thirds of patients. Under-standing the pattern of eye injuries is useful in determining the strategies required to protect children's eye health.

Protective effect of osthole on testicular ischemia/reperfusion injury in rats.
Testicular torsion is a urological emergency that requires urgent surgical intervention which results in testicular loss if not diagnosed and treated in a timely fashion. Ischemic tissue damage with oxygen deficiency, which starts with the decrease in blood flow to the tissue, continues to increase with the reoxygenation of the damaged tissues as soon as reperfusion is achieved. In various studies, osthole has also been shown to reduce cerebral, spinal cord, intestinal, renal, and myocardial ischemia/perfusion (I/R) damage. The aim of this study is to examine the effects of osthole on testicular I/R injury. ⋯ In our study, we observed that osthole reduced oxidative damage, suppressed the inflammatory process, prevented apoptosis, and reduced cell damage. We think that with repeated doses, cellular damage would gradually decline.
