The aim was to assess future schoolteachers' basic life support (BLS) knowledge and willingness to include this content in school lessons. The aim was also to determine the learning effect of a brief BLS hands-on training session, supported by real-time feedback. ⋯ Brief hands-on training supported by real-time feedback of CPR quality helps future schoolteachers improve their knowledge, self-confidence and CPR skills. BLS training should be implemented in University curricula for schoolteachers in order to promote their engagement in effective BLS training of schoolchildren.

Expert opinion on the creating and operating of the regional Pulmonary Embolism Response Teams (PERT). Polish PERT Initiative.
Pulmonary Embolism Response Team (PERT) is a multidisciplinary team established to stratify risk and choose optimal treatment in patients with acute pulmonary embolism (PE). Established for the first time at Massachusetts General Hospital in 2013, PERT is based on a concept combining a Rapid Response Team and a Heart Team. ⋯ The purpose of this document is to define the standards of PERT under Polish conditions, based on the experience of teams already operating in Poland, which formed an agreement called the Polish PERT Initiative. The goals of Polish PERT Initiative are: improving the treatment of patients with PE at local, regional and national levels, gathering, assessing and sharing data on the effectiveness of PE treatment (including various types of catheter-directed therapy), education on optimal treatment of PE, creating expert documents and supporting scientific research, as well as cooperation with other communities and scientific societies.

In the distal left main (LM) atherosclerosis mainly develops within bifurcation or trifur-cation. The aim of this study was to analyze the strategy of distal LM stenosis treatment and associated clinical outcomes in a large hospital in Northern Poland. ⋯ Regular drug-eluting stents as well as dedicated bifurcation BiOSS LIM® stents enabled a simple and fast distal LM treatment option with a single stent. Both resulted in comparable MACE and TLR rates.

Fluid resuscitation in massive bleeding may cause coagulation disorders by dilution of platelets and clotting factors or by the impact on their function. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of balanced crystalloid and colloid solutions on platelets in vitro using complex assessment of coagulation. ⋯ The effect of balanced crystalloids and colloids on platelet aggregation was insignificant, even after 20% volume substitution with the resuscitation fluids.
