The authors analyzed data from Polish national POL-TAVI registry in terms of paravalvular leak (PVL) occurrence after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) and its impact on clinical outcomes. ⋯ The PVL occurrence remains a frequent problem after TAVI and is device de-pendent, more common with Edwards 23 mm valve and 31 mm CoreValve prosthesis.

Postoperative atrial fibrillation (AF) is a common arrhythmia that occurs after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). New surgical techniques, particularly off-pump coronary artery bypass (OPCAB), are thought to be less invasive and results in fewer complications, i.e. AF, but available data are inconsistent. The aim of this study is to present the incidence and risk factors of AF in patients operated on with or without cardiopulmonary bypass. ⋯ In patients undergoing CABG, postoperative AF is a common arrhythmia independent of the type of surgical procedure.

Novel sirolimus eluting stents (SES) have shown non-inferior clinical outcomes when compared to everolimus eluting stents (EES), however only limited preclinical data have been published. Therefore, we evaluate vascular response of a new generation biodegradable polymer SES (BP-SES: Alex Plus, Balton) and fluoropolymer EES (EES: Xience Pro, Abbott) in the porcine coronary restenosis model. ⋯ New generation, BP-SES show similar vascular healing and biocompatibility profile with marginally higher degree of restenosis inhibition, when compared to fluoropolymer EES in the porcine coronary restenosis model.

This study aimed to prospectively evaluate the use of 3-dimensional printing (3DP) for the percutaneous transcatheter closure of a secundum atrial septal defect (ASD) with rim deficiency less than 5 mm. ⋯ A 3DP model presents ASD in a more visible way and allows more direct preoperative simulation to choose the most appropriate size of occluder, as compared with conventional imaging techniques. This technique is likely to extend the current indications for ASD with an insufficient rim.

The aim of this study is to point out timing of left atrium and its appendage functional recovery after cardioversion (CV) in recent onset atrial fibrillation (AF). ⋯ Stunning and functional recovery of the LA and its appendage are strongly determined by the duration being in AF. Serial IACT by TDI was a good new parameter for detection of functional recovery of LA and LA appendage.
