[Sexual dysfunction and depression: Validity of a French version of the ASEX scale].
Since the Beck study (1967), it is well known that sexual dysfunction is particularly prevalent in depressive patients compared to the general population, at 70% and 30% respectively. Depression, psychotropics and antidepressants are responsible for altering sexuality, and patients are considerably affected by these symptoms that dramatically decrease their quality of life. Screening for sexual dysfunctions seems essential, and a scale such as the Arizona Sexual Experience Scale (ASEX) may help practitioners. The English version of this scale was validated in 2000 (McGahuey et al. [9]), and is widely used in scientific research. The aim of this study was to assess the validity of the French version of the ASEX scale. ⋯ This study assessed the validity and reliability of the French version of the ASEX scale. These findings demonstrate the highly acceptable psychometric properties of ASEX in patients with depression.

The number of patients requiring primary and secondary care for factitious disorder unexplained by any known medical condition is high. We report a case illustrating the clinical and psychopathological features of factitious disorder. The treatment difficulties encountered in the association of this disorder with dermatillomania are discussed. ⋯ The comorbidity of factitious disorder and dermatillomania makes diagnosis very difficult. The limit between the two disorders is sometimes unclear.

Developing programs and actions to fight stigma and discrimination against people living with mental disorders is a priority both internationally and in France. Involving mental health service users in these anti-stigma programs has proved to be a key element for effective programs. The present study evaluates the impact of user-trainers in an anti-stigma campaign with job counselors on their knowledge, beliefs, and desire for social distance with regard to mental illness and the mentally ill. ⋯ A mental health awareness day using mental health service users and psychiatrists as trainers had significant positive effects in terms of reducing stigma with regard to people with mental illness. Further research is needed to understand whether the impact of such awareness approaches can be maintained in everyday professional practice over time.

The highest consumption levels of alcohol are found in the developed world, mostly the Northern Hemisphere. After a slight decrease at the beginning of the 1990s, alcohol use in the European Region increased with an average adult per capita consumption amounting to 12.5 litres of pure alcohol per capita for the year 2009. In France, adult consumption was 12.7 litres of pure alcohol per capita for the year 2009, and it is estimated that 1.5 to 2 million of adults are alcohol-dependent (4-5% of the adult population) and 5 million are excessive drinkers. ⋯ From 37 community-based psychiatric epidemiology studies that used standardized diagnostic instruments and included data on the percentage of individuals receiving care for alcohol abuse or dependence, the median rate of untreated cases of these disorders was calculated across the studies. Alcohol abuse and dependence had the widest treatment gap at 78.1% worldwide, and 92% in Europe. In this context, healthcare systems must adapt to meet the needs of patients who currently do not receive specialized care.

In recent years, discovery of ketamine's fast and powerful antidepressant effects for treatment-resistant depression (TRD) has led to rethinking of the pathophysiology of depression. Numerous studies in humans and animals have focused on mechanisms of action underlying this effect, producing a number of explanatory pathways. ⋯ Our review highlights the potential role of the glutamatergic system in the pathophysiology and treatment of mood disorders. Understanding which pathways underlie the fast antidepressant effect of ketamine paves the way for the development of new antidepressants.
