Diffusion tensor magnetic resonance imaging and fiber tractography of the sacral plexus in children with spina bifida.
It is still largely unknown how neural tube defects in spina bifida affect the nerves at the level of the sacral plexus. Visualizing the sacral plexus in 3 dimensions could improve our anatomical understanding of neurological problems in patients with spina bifida. We investigated anatomical and microstructural properties of the sacral plexus of patients with spina bifida using diffusion tensor imaging and fiber tractography. ⋯ To our knowledge this 3 Tesla magnetic resonance imaging study showed for the first time sacral plexus asymmetry and disorganization in 10 patients with spina bifida using diffusion tensor imaging and fiber tractography. The observed difference in diffusion values indicates that these methods may be used to identify nerve abnormalities. We expect that this technique could provide a valuable contribution to better analysis and understanding of the problems of patients with spina bifida in the future.

Salvage surgical resection for isolated locally recurrent inguinal lymph node metastasis of penile cancer: international study collaboration.
We assessed the merit of performing salvage inguinal lymph node dissection in those infrequent cases of penile cancer with locally recurrent inguinal lymph node metastases in the absence of other suspected sites of disease. ⋯ Salvage inguinal lymph node dissection is a potentially curative treatment in patients with penile cancer with locally recurrent inguinal lymph node metastases in the absence of occult disease. Patients undergoing such salvage surgery should be informed of the high likelihood of postoperative complications.

The validity and reliability of the neurogenic bladder symptom score.
The neurogenic bladder symptom score is a tool to measure urinary symptoms and consequences in patients with acquired or congenital neurogenic bladder. We describe score validity and reliability. ⋯ The neurogenic bladder symptom score, developed specifically to assess symptoms and consequences associated with neurogenic bladder dysfunction, has appropriate psychometric properties. Depending on the measurement need individual domains may be selected or it can be used as a comprehensive score.

Age and baseline quality of life at radical prostatectomy--who has the most to lose?
Although younger men have better health related quality of life scores after radical prostatectomy, many have higher baseline function with more to lose than older men. We examined the impact of age on sexual and urinary function and bother during the first 2 years after radical prostatectomy. ⋯ Younger men reported higher sexual and urinary function overall, and experienced greater decreases in sexual function immediately after radical prostatectomy than older men. While the 2 groups experienced similar relative sexual function decreases at 2 years, younger men had worse interim decreases at 1 year. Providers should consider these findings when discussing treatment timing, particularly with younger men diagnosed with early stage, low grade disease.

Social media are established tools for rapid information dissemination to a broad audience. A major use has been the compilation of conference specific messaging known as tweets via preselected hashtags on Twitter. We analyzed Twitter use between consecutive years at the AUA (American Urological Association) and CUA (Canadian Urological Association) annual meetings. ⋯ Twitter has emerged as a significant communication platform at urological meetings. Use increased dramatically between 2012 and 2013. Urologists have increasingly led this discussion with an increased focus on data arising from meeting proceedings. This adjunct to traditional meeting activity merits the attention of urologists and the professional associations that host such meetings.
