Review Meta AnalysisNonantibiotic prophylaxis for recurrent urinary tract infections: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
Increasing antimicrobial resistance has stimulated interest in nonantibiotic prophylaxis of recurrent urinary tract infections. We assessed the effectiveness, tolerability and safety of nonantibiotic prophylaxis in adults with recurrent urinary tract infections. ⋯ The evidence of the effectiveness of the oral immunostimulant OM-89 is promising. Although sometimes statistically significant, pooled findings for the other interventions should be considered tentative until corroborated by more research. Large head-to-head trials should be performed to optimally inform clinical decision making.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyThe prostatic urethral lift for the treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms associated with prostate enlargement due to benign prostatic hyperplasia: the L.I.F.T. Study.
We report the first multicenter randomized blinded trial of the prostatic urethral lift for the treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms secondary to benign prostatic hyperplasia. ⋯ The prostatic urethral lift, reliably performed with the patient under local anesthesia, provides rapid and sustained improvement in symptoms and flow, while preserving sexual function.

Prognostic impact of preoperative neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio in localized nonclear cell renal cell carcinoma.
The preoperative neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio was proposed as a prognostic factor for localized clear cell renal cell carcinoma. We evaluated its role in nonclear cell renal cell carcinoma. ⋯ The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio is an independent prognostic factor for disease-free survival after surgery with curative intent for localized nonclear cell renal cell carcinoma. It significantly increases the accuracy of established prognostic factors. The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio may provide a meaningful adjunct for patient counseling and clinical trial design.

Simultaneous kidney transplantation and bilateral native nephrectomy for polycystic kidney disease.
Bilateral native nephrectomy with simultaneous kidney transplantation is becoming more common for patients with polycystic kidney disease in the living donor nephrectomy era. Single center reports evaluating the short-term and long-term outcomes of simultaneous kidney transplantation have been published but are generally limited by small sample sizes. We examined population level data to broadly define the complications of simultaneous kidney transplantation. ⋯ Except for increased rates of intraoperative hemorrhage, blood transfusion and urological complications there were no significant differences in postoperative adverse outcomes in this large, population based study of patients who underwent simultaneous kidney transplantation compared to bilateral native nephrectomy alone.
