Skateboarding: more dangerous than roller skating or in-line skating.
To describe the circumstances, severity, and outcomes of skating-related injuries among children admitted to trauma centers. ⋯ Skateboarding-related injuries are more severe and have more serious consequences than roller skating or in-line skating injuries. Research is needed to identify ergonomic and behavioral factors responsible for higher head injury risk to skateboarders, and interventions are needed to reduce the risk.

Comparative StudyEffects of providing comprehensive ambulatory services to children with chronic conditions.
To document the effects of a comprehensive program of care on the resource utilization and cost of care for children with chronic conditions. ⋯ An investment of funds by a regional insurance company was associated with reduced costs, admissions, and lengths of stay for children with chronic conditions, and resulted in significant savings for the company. This model may be applicable to other centers.

The smoking gun: do clinicians follow guidelines on firearm safety counseling?
To describe clinicians' behavior regarding firearm safety counseling practices, develop a model to predict current counseling behavior, and identify resources that might positively influence willingness to counsel according to medical guidelines. ⋯ In Los Angeles County gaps exist between clinicians' views of the benefits of counseling families with young children regarding firearm safety and their actual behavior. Guidelines and handouts are available from major medical organizations. Research should focus on how to get practitioners to use available materials, enabling them to better adhere to guidelines.

Case ReportsPseudomethemoglobinemia: a case report and review of sulfhemoglobinemia.
To see if methemoglobin could potentially be misdiagnosed and the limitation of present cooximeters. ⋯ There is a potential for the diagnosis of methemoglobin with some of the limitations of present co-oximeters. The laboratory diagnosis of sulfhemoglobinemia can be difficult to make.
