Post-COVID-19 Syndrome (PCS) entails a spectrum of symptoms, including fatigue, reduced physical performance, dyspnea, cognitive impairment, and psychological distress. Given the effectiveness of exercise-based rehabilitation for PCS, this study examined the efficacy of rehabilitation for PCS patients, focusing on sex-specific differences. ⋯ Rehabilitation improves cardiopulmonary fitness, pulmonary function and disease burden in women and men with long-term PCS. Women with PCS may benefit from intensified respiratory muscle training. Clinical assessment should include cardiopulmonary exercise testing and pulmonary function tests and fatigue assessments for all PCS patients to document limitations and tailor therapeutical strategies.

Gender bias exists in healthcare and affects how pain is assessed and managed. This bias affects patient outcomes and their trust in healthcare professionals. We also know that future clinicians develop their attitudes early in training. Medical school is therefore an opportunity to shape the values of future doctors and to combat systemic gender bias in healthcare. This systematic review aims to explore medical student perceptions of the relationship between patients' gender and their pain, so that recommendations can be made for developing medical education. ⋯ Whilst there is a paucity of high-quality studies in this area, patients' gender was found to affect how their pain is perceived by medical students. No studies explored where students' attitudes towards gender and pain arise from, and few involved 'real life situations'. We propose that further work into medical student perceptions in 'real situations' is needed. This will help to inform how undergraduate medical education can be developed to tackle gender bias, and ultimately improve outcomes for patients.

A voluntary National Healthy Food and Drink Policy (the Policy) was introduced in public hospitals in New Zealand in 2016. This study assessed the changes in implementation of the Policy and its impact on providing healthier food and drinks for staff and visitors in four district health boards between 1 and 5 years after the initial Policy introduction. ⋯ Introduction of the Policy improved the relative healthiness of food and drinks available, but the proportion of red items remained high. More dedicated support is required to fully implement the Policy.

Premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) is a reproductive disorder characterized by the cessation of ovarian function before the age of 40. Although mitochondrial dysfunction and immune disorders are believed to contribute to ovarian damage in POI, the interplay between these factors remains understudied. ⋯ Our results highlight the crosstalk between mitochondrial function and the immune response in the development of POI. The identification of MitoDEGs could lead to reliable biomarkers for the early diagnosis, monitoring, and personalized treatment of POI.

The majority of men referred with a raised PSA for suspected prostate cancer will receive unnecessary tertiary investigations including MRI and biopsy. Here, we compared different types of biomarkers to refine tertiary referrals and when different definitions of clinically significant cancer were used. ⋯ Incorporating phi or PSAd can refine and tier who is referred for tertiary imaging and/or biopsy after a raised PSA test. Incremental value however varied depending on the definition of clinical significance and was particularly useful when composite prognostic endpoints are used.
