Widespread and prolonged therapy with ganciclovir (GCV) may result in the emergence of GCV-resistant mutations in human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) genome. The aim of this study was to detect the UL97 mutations associated with GCV resistance in kidney transplant recipients. ⋯ Our results indicate that mutations in the UL97 gene associated with GCV resistance may occur in 1 in 25 recipients treated with GCV. In addition, a higher mutation rate of D605E was detected in our recipients. This study provides the first evidence of the prevalence and pattern of GCV related mutations in Iranian Turkish recipients (Tab. 2, Fig. 1, Ref. 28).

This study was aimed to investigate the relationship of miR-17-5p, miR-30b, miR-30d, miR-216a and miR-216b associated with autophagy gene beclin 1, and beclin 1 gene with colorectal cancer (CRC). ⋯ The beclin 1 gene may play a role as a tumor suppressor in CRC. Moreover, these miRNAs cannot be used as highly reliable biomarkers in serum for CRC diagnosis (Tab. 2, Fig. 6, Ref. 46).

Glucosamine derivatives have been found to have anticancer effects in many cancer cell lines in previous investigations. The effect of glucosamine sulfate on neuroblastoma, however, is uncertain. The potential cytotoxic effects of glucosamine sulfate on the SH-SY5Y cell line were investigated in this study. The underlying mechanisms of this cytotoxicity have also been studied. ⋯ Altogether, glucosamine sulfate produced considerable cytotoxicity in SH-SY5Y cells by triggering oxidative stress, inducing DNA damage, and finally causing apoptosis. In addition, more research is needed to determine the efficacy of glucosamine sulfate as an anticancer drug in the treatment of neuroblastoma (Fig. 5, Ref. 39).

Analysing the results of patients with odontogenic descending necrotising mediastinitis (DNM) treated predominantly by transcervical approach. ⋯ This study supports the role of transcervical mediastinal drainage as an alternative approach in the surgical treatment of odontogenic DNM (Tab. 4, Fig. 2, Ref. 30).

To analyse the main features of the top 100 (T100) most cited articles in academia and 100 most discussed articles on social media about vitamin D from 1975 to 2021 and compare bibliometric and altmetric analysis. ⋯ Altmetric analysis of vitamin D is currently insufficient to replace traditional bibliometric analysis but can provide valuable information about the society's interest. As social media gains more importance every day in our lives, high altmetric score could affect future interests and direct studies (Tab. 6, Fig. 3, Ref. 21).
