In-hospital cardiac arrest is a serious issue for hospitalized patients. The documented initial rhythm and detected medical events have been reported to influence the survival of cardiopulmonary resuscitation. This study aimed to identify the effect of continuous real-time electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring on the prognosis of resuscitated patients in a general cardiac ward. ⋯ A wireless ECG telemonitoring system were beneficial to the initial success of resuscitation for patients at high risk of cardiovascular events suffering an in-hospital cardiac arrest; but had less impact on 24-h survival and survival to discharge.

Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA) C-type distal femoral fractures can be very challenging to treat effectively. While locked plating is widely used in the complex distal femoral fracture, failure of locked plate fixation is not uncommon. First, we tried to determine the risk factor related to early failure of multiplanar OTA C-type fracture in the distal femur after fixation with lateral locked plate. Second, we tried to provide a strategy for surgeons to prevent pitfalls of early failure in the complex distal femoral fractures treated with lateral locked plating. ⋯ Sagittal oblique fracture was more likely to result in early postoperative failure. Early recognition of the fracture pattern should be considered to avoid catastrophic results.

Due to the rarity of oral lymphoma (OL), we aimed to evaluate the clinical features of OL and discuss these findings in light of the literature. ⋯ Despite the rarity of extranodal lymphomas in oral cavity, their occurrence may be part of disseminated disease. Detailed history-taking, clinical and imaging examination and awareness of the patient's signs and symptoms are important for early diagnosis and an improved prognosis. The current data form a useful basis for clinical investigation and teaching regarding lymphoma occurring in the oral cavity.

The Taiwan Pediatric Oncology Group (TPOG) initiated two consecutive protocols for treating pediatric patients with Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) since 1994. However, the results have not been analyzed and reported. This study aimed to investigate the survival outcomes of childhood LCH at the National Taiwan University Hospital over the past 20 years. ⋯ Clinical outcomes of children with LCH in Taiwan was good. The results of this study may help in the better classification of risk grouping for protocol designs in the future.

Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) was widely used in endodontic therapy as bioceramic material. Although MTA has high biocompatibility, it may lead to tooth discoloration. The aim of this study was to investigate the discoloration of two different bioceramic materials and the effects of internal bleaching. ⋯ In terms of visual perception, white ProRoot® MTA tends to cause black and blue discoloration. SavDen® MTA, formulated with calcium lactate gluconate, could be used to reduce tooth discoloration in endodontic treatment.
