Postoperative skeletal relapse is the most important issue in patients undergoing orthognathic surgery. This study aimed to investigate clinical skeletal relapse (≥2 mm) after mandibular setback surgery (intraoral vertical ramus osteotomy: IVRO) using receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC curve) analysis. ⋯ In IVRO, the postoperative mandibular positions reveal posterior drift and anterior displacement (relapse). The experience of clinical observation and patient perception of postoperative skeletal relapse was ≥2 mm. In the ROC curve analysis, the cut-off point of setback was 14.1 mm.

Although blood test is a routine in major burns, its relationship with burn size and intensive care unit length of stay (ICULOS) remains undetermined. We investigated the feasibility of using these tests as a reference for definite diagnosis of major burn size, burn size >20% of the total body surface area (TBSA), and their relationships with ICULOS. ⋯ Admission Hb and WBC could be used as a reference for definite diagnosis of major burn size, especially in borderline cases. BUN/Cr in females, and Hb and BUN in males, were related to ICULOS.

Sugammadex is a direct reversal agent of aminosteroid muscle relaxants, particularly rocuronium, with promptly and completely reverse of deep neuromuscular block (NMB), which allows better surgical conditions. Sugammadex exhibits advantages over indirect reversal agent acetylcholinesterase inhibitor neostigmine with less adverse effects. In this retrospective review, we compared the incidence of postoperative vomiting (POV), postoperative urinary retention (POUR), and hemodynamic changes between sugammadex and neostigmine/glycopyrrolate in reversal of muscular blockade. ⋯ The heart rate was 7.253 lower (P < 0.0001) and mean arterial pressure was 5.213 lower (P < 0.0001) in sugammadex group. The POV of neostigmine/glycopyrrolate group was 3.16 times more than sugammadex group (OR = 3.16, p < 0.0001), and POUR of neostigmine/glycopyrrolate group was 4.291 times more than sugammadex group (OR = 4.291, p < 0.0001). Sugammadex showed better hemodynamic stability, and lower incidence of POV and POUR than neostigmine/glycopyrrolate.

Hereditary neuromuscular diseases (NMDs) are a group of rare disorders, and the diagnosis of these diseases is a substantial burden for referral centers. Although next-generation sequencing (NGS) has identified a large number of genes associated with hereditary NMDs, the diagnostic rates still vary across centers. ⋯ The application of NGS in this single-center study proves the great diversity of hereditary NMDs. A capture panel is essential, but high-quality clinical and laboratory evaluations of patients are also indispensable.

Previous studies had showed that indigenous clones of Salmonella Typhi and S. Paratyphi were originally imported from other countries in Taiwan. We presented the clinical manifestations and laboratory findings of indigenous and imported enteric fever cases in Taiwan in the current decade. ⋯ Typhi isolates were found in 2018. One indigenous S. Paratyphi B isolate was multi-drug resistant (MDR) to chloramphenicol, ampicillin, and trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole.
