This study aimed to determine the relationship of complete blood count (CBC) parameters and derivates with fasting blood sugar and the body mass index. ⋯ This study found a negative correlation between the NLR and BMI values and a lower NLR value in the obese group compared with the normal group. The overweight group showed a higher lymphocyte count, thereby confirming the positive correlation of lymphocyte count with BMI. A comprehensive clarification of the mechanisms underlying the relationship between obesity and inflammation may allow developing treatment strategies to reduce the negative effects of obesity.

To assess the efficacy of intercostal nerve protection by intercostal muscle (ICM) flap in post-thoracotomy pain improvement compared to intracostal suturing. ⋯ Intracostal sutures in combination with muscle flap did not reduce postoperative pain in thoracotomy compared with intracostal sutures alone in thoracotomy closure.

To explore the promoting apoptosis and antitumor activities of ferulic acid (FA) in human osteosarcoma and its potential mechanism. ⋯ Ferulic acid could significantly descend osteosarcoma cell viability through the promoting apoptosis pathway in which FA activates both caspase-3 and Bax and inactivates Bcl-2.

To assess the incidence, possible risk factors and prognosis of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) in critically ill elderly patients. ⋯ A higher incidence of PAH occurs in critically ill elderly patients. PAH is more likely to occur in patients with an enlarged left atrium, and these problems adversely impact the prognosis.

To analyze the application of transabdominal sonography and transvaginal sonography in early diagnosis of pregnancy and to provide a reference for the selection of diagnosis methods in clinic. ⋯ Transabdominal sonography in combination with transvaginal sonography can complement information, improve detection rate, and reduce or avoid misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis, which provides a scientific basis for the formulation of clinical treatment scheme.
